1995 RANGE ROVER CLASSIC 3.9 VOGUE - MANUAL

This 1995 Range Rover Classic 3.9 Vogue ‘Soft Dash’ is a refined classic 4x4, which was in single private ownership for 25 years, and which comes with a vast history file showing continuous maintenance from new. Under the bonnet sits the 182bhp 3.9-litre V8, coupled with the rare R380 five-speed manual transmission – this newly developed gearbox was only fitted to the very last Classic models. The odometer currently indicates 212,110 miles from new, but the documentation shows no less than £83,000 in expenditure over the years to keep the car in very good order. It is now offered for sale at No Reserve.

First registered in February 1995, this Range Rover Classic was subsequently re-registered to the owner’s company in 1996, though it was returned to their personal collection in 2020, shortly before they passed away. The vendor acquired it from the estate but has not re-registered it in their name. The cherished number plate, showing the original owner’s initials, has been with the vehicle since 1996 and is included in the sale.

The car’s iconic bodywork is in generally good shape, though the vendor has reported some early signs of rust around the wheel arches, which is also visible inside the door shuts; however the majority of the chassis and body is solid. It is finished with resprayed Montpelier Red paintwork, with the exception of the roof, which remains original and has age-related fading as shown in the gallery. The rest of the finish presents well, though has some scratches to the offside rear quarter, and some stone chips on the lower wings and door panels. Some light marks and scuffs are visible on the black body trims, though the 16-inch wheels are in great shape.

Inside, the cabin has been re-trimmed with beige leather upholstery, and the seats present with just some light creasing and slight discolouration of the red piping in places. The plush red carpets are in good shape, while the plastic door cards are accented by beige leather inserts and an attractive walnut burr which continues through the dashboard. All of the switchgear appears to be in good order, and the electrics are believed to work as they should.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken in March 2020 at 211,185 miles, where technicians at Anton’s Ltd carried out a full service, changing the engine oil and filter. Additionally, the final invoice in the history file dated 2 May 2020 shows a new starter motor, new headlining, new tyres and a full wheel refurbishment carried out at a cost of £1,176. Prior to this, full services were undertaken in 2016 and 2014, with the vendor noting that the car has been very well maintained from new and comes with a comprehensive maintenance history, detailing over £83,000 in expenditure – and the photos in the gallery show the extent of the huge file of paperwork. The original service book is fully up-to-date and shows 37 stamps.

The vendor reports that the engine can occasionally cut out at idle, but when re-started it fires straight away and idles perfectly. Having spoken to various Range Rover specialists, the vendor has discovered this is a common Classic complaint and can normally be rectified with a new temperature sensor. In addition, the only other complaint is slightly weak second gear synchromesh: a swift gear change might result in slight resistance; however a ‘normal’ gear change results with no issues at all.

The most recent MOT test was on 8 February 2021 at 212,013 miles, which resulted in a pass with two advisories to monitor damp front hubs and some general corrosion.

Accompanying the vehicle are three sets of keys and an extensive history file detailing 26 years of use and maintenance, including the original service book, book pack and a large number of invoices.

This Range Rover Classic 3.9 Vogue is a handsome and well-appointed 4x4, which has been well maintained throughout its life, and presents in good overall condition. While the next owner will no doubt wish to invest in some cosmetic refurbishment, this Range Rover would is reported to be in sound mechanical order, and would make a smart addition to a collection of British modern classics.
