This Porsche 928 GTS is a great example of the marque’s luxurious GT, presented in excellent condition and with an extensive service history from new. Under the bonnet is the 345bhp 5.4-litre V8 engine, fitted exclusively to the GTS variant, which is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. The odometer displays 112,850 miles from new.
An original UK right-hand drive example, this 928 GTS was first registered on 1 April 1995, the final year of production for the 928 model. Its log book shows just three prior keepers, and the car is believed to have spent its entire life in and around London, prior to its purchase by the current owner five years ago. Since then, it has been enjoyed as intended, taking multiple summer trips from the UK to Scandinavia, and is now being offered for sale to its next enthusiast owner.
Believed to be entirely free of any accident damage, this 928 GTS’ bodywork has been well cared-for, with preventative and repair work being carried out as and when required. This included the fitting of new, original Porsche rear wheel arch panels in 2017 to replace corroded metal – carried out by The Village Garage bodyshop in East Grinstead. The rear bumper, doors and tailgate were also resprayed at this time to blend into the new panels, and the front bumper was repainted to rectify some stone chips.
As a result of this sympathetic approach, the body panels and paintwork are now in very smart condition, with the only marks of note being a tiny parking dent in the middle of the driver’s door, some small stone chips on the bonnet, a small scuff to the lip of the passenger-side front wheel arch and a small scratch on the sliding metal sunroof. There is also a small 15mm square patch of slight discolouration at the trailing edge of the bonnet, caused by an old bird dropping. However, these are all minor blemishes, especially when considering the age and mileage of the car. Its 17-inch five-spoke ‘Cup’ wheels also present very well, and have been refurbished during the seller’s ownership.
Looking to the interior, the two-tone cabin is finished in a mixture of Marble Grey and Midnight Blue – the latter for the floor carpeting, door cards, dashboard, steering wheel and automatic gear selector. Providing a handsome contrast, the electrically-adjustable front seats, rear seats, and armrests are finished in Marble Grey. The front seats, centre armrest, and the steering wheel were re-trimmed less than 500 miles ago to rectify general age-related marks and wear – colour-matched to the original upholstery.
The seller notes that a Blaupunkt stereo head-unit with USB and Bluetooth connectivity has been fitted, bringing a touch of modernity to the cabin, and all of the buttons, switches and electrical items work as they should.
As with the interior and exterior elements, this 928 GTS’ mechanical components have been carefully maintained and refreshed where necessary, with its good running order being a testament to the current owner’s fastidious care over the years.
Its last scheduled maintenance was carried out on 22 August 2019 at 112,793 miles by German Automation in Surrey. Work included an oil service, replacement of the fuel lines and repairing the fuel tank cage, plus servicing the front brakes.
Prior to this, in August 2018, German Automation replaced an air-conditioning condenser, window felts, and the engine intake pipe. The seat motors and the offside door lock were also repaired, and the throttle linkage was lubricated. In June 2017, the team carried out an annual service, fitted a new battery, and re-trimmed the interior – as described above. The last record of a cam belt replacement was at 85,000 miles, so it is due for renewal.
Since the seller acquired the car in 2015, it has received regular services and fluid changes, as well as having new OEM engine mounts fitted in 2016. A number of other parts have also been replaced over the years, including the rear lighting looms, brake discs and pads, HT ignition leads and intake covers.
The car’s last annual MOT test was conducted on 21 August 2019 at 112,790 miles. Passing first time, it was issued with a handful of advisory notices, detailing wear to the offside rear handbrake cable casing, a damp steering rack with slight play, slight play in the offside front wheel bearing, some rust on the rear suspension coil springs and struts, and rust on the rear brake pipes. The latter were replaced with new pipes straight after the MOT.
Its wheels are shod with Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tyres. All four are in excellent condition with plenty of remaining tread remaining. The front tyres were replaced around 6,000 miles ago, while the rears are almost brand-new, having covered 150 miles since they were fitted.
Accompanying the car are all of its original handbooks, its stamped service book and almost every receipt for maintenance and replacement parts on the car, dating back to service invoices from AFN Porsche in the 1990s. Every MOT certificate from 1998 to today is also present, plus a large number of its original tax discs.
It will also be supplied with its original spare wheel, tyre compressor and full tool kit, plus the correct Porsche first aid kit, wheel brace and even the original plastic bag and gloves for the spare tyre. The seller is also including a large box of spare parts, including new brake discs, spark plugs, spare carpets, and various sensors and relays.
This Porsche 928 GTS is a fantastic example a consummate grand tourer, completed in the final year of production. Well cared-for and benefitting from sympathetic repair and restoration both inside and out, its excellent condition belies the mileage, and it is ready for its next owner to use it as intended – covering vast distances in comfort and style, to the soundtrack of its refined and powerful V8.
Please note: due to commitments on the seller’s side, the winning bidder of this 928 GTS must have paid for and collected the car by Thursday 6 August at the latest.
