This Porsche 993 Carrera 4 Cabriolet is a well-maintained and usable modern classic. Power comes from a 3.6-litre air-cooled flat-six producing 272bhp, coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox. The odometer shows 95,644 miles from new.
First registered in August 1995 with the supplying dealer being Chiswick Porsche, the V5C log book shows just four previous keepers. The seller has been the owner of the car for the past 10 years.
The exterior of the car is in good condition for its age. Its Iris Blue paintwork presents well, with a few small marks and small scratches in the finish, as shown in the photo gallery. Some surface rust is starting to appear on both rear arches, visible on the inner lips and with some spots around the protection film.
The blue convertible roof appears to be in excellent condition, with no rips or tears in the fabric, and fitting snugly on the frame with no leaks. The roof mechanism is in good working order, and the motor was replaced in 2016. It rides on 17-inch ‘Cup II’ alloys, which have a small scuff on the nearside rear wheel, and a kerb graze on the offside rear wheel.
Its interior presents very well, and is equipped with the rare factory-fit sport seats. The dark grey leather upholstery is in great shape, with no rips or tears, and only modest wear. There are small scuffs near the seat adjustment controls, and the leather around the steering wheel rim and handbrake grip has worn and discoloured slightly. Its factory specification also includes air-conditioning, while the head unit has been upgraded to a JVC CD player system – though the original cassette player is included with the vehicle. The switchgear is free from any major wear and there are no known faults.
The vehicle’s last service was in July of this year at Porchetech in Hampstead. This included an oil and filter service with a brake fluid change. The clutch was replaced in May 2018, along with an air-conditioning service and another brake fluid change, again at Porchetech. The front shock absorbers were renewed in 2016 along with exhaust heat shields, new ignition leads were fitted in 2017, and the alternator belt was replaced in 2019.
The most recent MOT was carried out alongside the recent service on 14 July 2020 at 95,621 miles. This resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories. The wheels are shod in Continental SportContact tyres on all corners, though the rear tyres are in need of replacement. The seller reports that braking system takes a minute to pressurise fully on startup, evidenced by a warning light on the dashboard that disappears when the correct pressure is reached.
The vehicle has a comprehensive service history, with the original stamped maintenance record, all receipts present for work carried out since 1999. The original tool kit, jack, tyre inflator and spare tyre are also supplied. Accompanying the car is a wind deflector and a roof tonneau cover.
This Porsche 993 Carrera 4 Cabriolet is an exciting and usable open-top sports car. It would make a smart addition to any Porsche collection, but could also be used a great daily driver through the summer – or even all year round thanks to its four-wheel drive grip. This 911 is now ready for its next owner, who will undoubtedly relish the character of a top-down, air-cooled and thoroughly analogue driving experience.
