This 1995 Mercedes-Benz (W124) E320 is a stylish and highly practical modern classic estate car, presented in solid condition and finished in an attractive factory colour scheme. Under the bonnet is the 217bhp 3.2-litre M104 straight-six engine, which drives the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. The odometer displays 165,172 km (102,633 miles) from new.

First registered in Japan in September 1995, this E320 was imported into the UK by Specialist Cars, York, and registered with the DVLA in May 2018, when it was acquired by the seller.

Owing much to its time on Japan’s unsalted roads, this E320’s bodywork is said to remain in solid, rust-free condition, and has never required any welding. Since its arrival in the UK, the car has been undersealed three times in as many years, helping to protect it from the inclement British weather. Overall, the handsome Tourmaline Green metallic paintwork presents very well, though there are various small marks and blemishes around the car in line with its age and mileage, including minor scuffs and scratches on the front and rear bumpers, a small dent in the tailgate and various stone chips.

The vendor believes that much of the paintwork is original, however the front bumper has been refinished during their ownership. The exterior trim, badges and brightwork present well, and while there is a chip in the driver’s-side headlight lens, replacement parts are relatively plentiful and affordable. The car rides on the correct set of 15-inch, eight-hole alloy wheels, which are in great shape.

Moving inside, the cabin’s beige leather upholstery is very smart, with some minor creasing on the seats and wear on the driver’s outer bolster, but no rips, tears or other damage. Elsewhere, the interior trim presents well, though the seller notes that there are various small holes in the dashboard where various accessories were removed when the car was imported into the UK. Punctuating the door cards, dashboard and centre console, the glossy wood trim is in good order, and is free of any substantial chips, cracks or fading; however the sliding lid for the central storage compartment does not lock.

Ahead, the steering wheel features wooden upper and lower sections with leather hand grips, which are slightly worn. At the rear, this already practical estate car benefits from a factory-fitted folding bench seat in the boot, making it a usable seven-seater. Entertainment is provided via a modern DAB radio/CD player and upgraded speakers. Most of the switchgear and electrical items work as they should; however, the cruise control is inoperative, the dash dimmer switch is not functioning, and the central locking system does not always open the fuel filler flap.

This E320’s most recent routine maintenance was an oil and filter service, which was carried out in November 2020 at 164,099 km by RGM. Prior to this, oil services were carried out in December 2019 and in May 2018 by the car’s importer, Specialist Cars, York.

During the vendor’s ownership, the front suspension dampers and mounts have been changed, along with all four coil springs, which were replaced with brand new genuine Mercedes units. Furthermore, the engine and gearbox wiring looms have been renewed, a new water pump has been fitted, and the exhaust backbox and heater fan have also been replaced.

Its last MOT test was conducted on 9 November 2020 at 164,099 km, which resulted in a first-time pass without a single advisory. The car will be accompanied by its Japanese service record, English handbook and documentation of its UK maintenance history.
