This 1995 Mercedes-Benz E280 Estate is a well-preserved example of the elegant modern classic, with a smart Smoke Silver finish and a solid maintenance history. Under the bonnet sits the 2.8-litre straight-six engine, coupled with a smooth four-speed automatic transmission. The odometer currently indicates 123,777 miles from new.

First registered in August 1995, this E280 Estate has been with its current keeper for two years, having been acquired from their uncle, who is the only other owner. Its factory specification includes air-conditioning, an electric sliding sunroof, front and rear electric windows, and eight-hole alloy wheels.

The bodywork of this elegant Mercedes is all in good shape, with the vendor noting that the front wings and tailgate have been replaced to rectify some corrosion, while the wings, bonnet and bumpers were all repainted in 2013 as part of a £9,000 refurbishment. The Smoke Silver finish is now in great condition overall, though a couple of minor imperfections have been reported; including a scuff on the front bumper, two chips in the windscreen and a small amount of corrosion in the offside rear window trim. The vehicle rides on the original 15-inch alloy wheels, which have some kerbing damage and surface corrosion.

Inside, the Mushroom cloth upholstery is believed to be entirely original, and the seats remain in exceptional condition for their age – a testament to the renowned quality of the W124 generation cars. A few minor blemishes have been reported, such as some light damage to the offside B-pillar trim, some wear to the front door sill covers and some slight discolouration in the boot; though the headlining and fabric door card inserts are both in great shape. The wood veneers which accent the centre console and door panels feature a few light scratches. Its central locking does not currently work off the remote fob, but does work using the key.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken in April 2021 at 123,777 miles, where technicians at Andy Lee R & D changed the engine oil and carried out a visual safety check. Similar routine maintenance was also carried out in March 2012 at 117,088 miles. Prior to this, its servicing was carried out solely at Mercedes-Benz, as per the summary below.

The most recent MOT test was on 28 May 2020 at 122,427 miles, which resulted in a pass with one minor defect – an insecure battery – and one advisory to monitor a minor exhaust leak. The tyres were fitted in 2013 and are still in excellent condition, all with 8mm of tread remaining.

Accompanying the vehicle are the original owner’s manual, service book, specification documents and toolkit, along with a manual for the Blaupunkt stereo.
