1995 HOLDEN COMMODORE VS POLICE SPEC

This Holden Commodore VS is a sound example of an ex-New South Wales police interceptor, which would make a fun retro classic. It is powered by the 224hp Holden 5.0-litre V8, coupled to a four-speed automatic transmission. The odometer in the vehicle currently shows 60,018 km, but the true mileage from new is understood to be approximately 185,000 km.

First registered in November 1995 to the NSW Police, this Commodore appears to have been kept in excellent mechanical order, with regular early servicing documented up to 79,725 km in November 2000, and other receipts in the history file dated more recently. The current owner acquired the car three years ago.

Its bodywork and paint are described as being in generally good condition, with only minor scuffs and scratches, and paint chips commensurate with the age and mileage. The car retains the original badging, and the headlights are protected by Metrix plastic film guards. Around the right-hand side rear door, the rubber seal has lifted, so will need to be reattached or replaced by the next owner. It rides on the original 15-inch painted steel wheels, which were a feature of the interceptor or ‘chaser’ police vehicles.

Inside, this Commodore is equipped with the correct SS specification seats upholstered in grey cloth, manual winding windows, dual airbags, and a switchable power/economy mode button for the four-speed gearbox. There is also a speed alert module, and an aftermarket Sony stereo and CD player - though the original Eurovox cassette deck unit is included in the sale. All of the trim is in generally good order, with a few marks and stains commensurate with a mileage of 185,000 km, but no major damage. The air-conditioning is currently inoperative, which the vendor states is down to a minor leak as the main components have been replaced; and the airbag warning light is dimly lit, which is understood to be down to a faulty clock spring.

Mechanically, this Holden’s chassis plate is tagged with the ‘BT1’ police package code, and it features ABS brakes and lowered independent rear suspension, with performance shock absorbers and anti-roll bars. It is fresh from recent maintenance carried out at Century Motors in Chippendale, which comprised a full service, as well as modifications to the oil pump and pick up to increase lubrication flow. The tyres are reported to be around 50% worn.

Accompanying the car is the original stamped service book, VS series owner’s handbook, two keys, and a folder of other documentation and receipts.

This Holden Commodore VS is described as an honestly presented example of a former highway patrol police chaser, which benefits from a good history file, and which appears to remain true to its original factory specification. It could readily be driven and enjoyed as-is, or would make a great basis for some cosmetic rejuvenation by a passionate enthusiast.
