This Ferrari F355 GTS is a low-mileage example of one of the best all-round supercars in the marque’s back catalogue, presented in excellent condition and with superb service history. Under the engine lid is the 375bhp 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V8, coupled to a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows just 30,062 miles from new.
Understood to have been the very first F355 GTS in the UK, this car was used for press and publicity purposes for the first few months of its life, and was initially registered on the famous Maranello UK number plate ‘EHF 1’. As an earlier example of the F355, this car also has the Bosch Motronic 2.7 engine management system, which is widely accepted as delivering slightly more responsive performance. It also means the car has the more elegant three-spoke Momo steering wheel without a driver’s airbag.
Unsurprisingly for a demonstrator car, this F355 did not leave the factory in the base-level trim, but was instead optioned with the lightweight carbon bucket seats, trimmed in Connolly leather with synthetic suede centre panels. Within the current ownership, the car’s exhaust has been upgraded to a high-performance Capristo system - though it will be supplied with the original parts should the next owner wish to revert it.
First registered on 1 January 1995, this F355 GTS was used for demonstrator and publicity duties through to mid-April 1995, when it changed to an age-related registration. There are now seven previous registered keepers on the log book. Between 2000 and 2003, the car was shipped to Tokyo temporarily, while its then owner was on an overseas job posting. It was never officially exported during this time however, remaining on its UK registration. The current owner acquired the car six years ago, and has enjoyed around 2,000 miles on the road.
Today, its bodywork presents in superb condition, with absolutely no panel damage or corrosion. The Giallo Modena paint was refreshed in 2019 with a professional respray, to rectify areas of stone chipping and the common bubbling along the buttress joint lines. As such, it now looks pristine, with a deep and glossy finish. While the targa top was originally black from the factory, it is now body-coloured, and is in equally impressive condition. It can be stored behind the seats when not in use. The 18-inch magnesium alloy wheels are also in great shape.
In the cabin, the manually adjustable carbon seats are in good condition, with no damage to the mechanisms or fixings. The black Connolly leather and suede upholstery has no rips or tears, and has been well cared-for and regularly detailed during the current ownership. Like most Ferraris of this era, it does have some slightly sticky plastics in places, but this is easily remedied by specialists that can bring these surfaces back to a pristine finish. Other than an aftermarket stereo, the interior remains entirely original, with a fantastic driver-focused feel.
Mechanically, this F355 is fresh from an annual service at 30,061 miles at renowned marque specialist Foskers in Kent, when it also received a new battery, replacement CV gaiters for worn items on the steering rack and drive shaft, renewed oil pipes, and two new rear tyres. Prior to this, it was also serviced by Foskers in 2019 at 29,928 miles, and in 2018 at 29,767 miles - the latter comprising a major cam belt renewal service.
The last MOT test was on 4 June 2020 at 30,169 miles, when it achieved a first-time pass with only one advisory about wear on the rear tyres - which were subsequently replaced. The car has a very good MOT history, which fully supports the mileage and service records.
Accompanying the car are all of the original books, including the owner’s manual and the stamped guarantee and maintenance record. The factory-supplied tool kit is also present, along with the soft pouch cover for the targa top roof. The seller notes that there is only one key.
This Ferrari F355 GTS is a true performance car icon, presented in superb condition and in a head-turning factory colour. Its Capristo exhaust provides a wonderful enhancement for the already high-revving V8, delivering a soundtrack closer in character to a Formula One car than almost anything else with number plates. With low mileage, interesting provenance, and fastidious maintenance history, this F355 is undoubtedly one of the best examples of an all-time great, and would be an impressive addition to any collection.
