1995 DUCATI 916 STRADA BIPOSTO

This Ducati 916 Biposto is an iconic Italian sports bike, which has benefitted from a recent refurbishment and is presented in a handsome racing-inspired colour scheme. It is powered by the 916cc L-twin Desmodromic engine producing around 112bhp, coupled to a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer displays 14,800 miles from new.

The 916 is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful bikes ever made, praised in period for its innovative twin-slit headlights, single-sided swingarm and under-seat exhausts. The model was also immensely successful on the circuit, winning 120 World Superbike championship races, eight constructors' titles and six riders' titles.

Its performance more than matched the looks, and it would later be described by Motorcycle News as a bike that “transcended the boundaries of the market and gained universal recognition and praise from both motorcyclists and non-motorcyclists alike”. While launched in single-seater Strada form, it was later replaced by the Biposto in 1995.

With five previous owners on its log book, this 916 was acquired by its current owner a few months ago, and is being offered for sale once again due to them relocating. It was off the road for a total of 12 years prior to being fully stripped down and refurbished. Now complete and boasting a number of upgrades, it is offered for sale to another enthusiast.

The bike’s bodywork is in great condition, with its red paint having been accented by the addition of white highlights, while the frame has been powder-coated in Speedline Gold. Evoking the liveries of the 916s used in the World Superbike championships; this is complemented by a number of carbon-fibre components and manufacturer decals on its lower body. Overall, the paintwork presents well, with only a few blemishes, included stone chips to the lower front fairing and some minor cracks to the paintwork.

As well as its carbon-fibre front mudguard, racing air box and Termignoni silencers, it has also been fitted with sequential indicators, which are far brighter and safer than the originals. The previous keeper replaced the original ‘flip-up’ stand with a side stand from a Ducati 1198 – though all of the bike’s original parts, including its seat, will be included in the sale. It rides on the original three-spoke wheels, which have been powder-coated in Speedline Gold to match the frame, and which are in excellent condition.

Its original Biposto seat will be provided by the seller, but a suede-trimmed mono seat is currently fitted and is in very good condition, with no rips or noticeable wear. The instrument dials are clear and free of cracks, and the temperature gauge transmitter has been replaced and is working well. All of the other electrical items and switches also work as they should.

Mechanically, this 916 Biposto is in great shape, having been refurbished by its previous owner. A fully trained motor vehicle technician with more than 40 years of experience, he spent two years bringing this stunning sports bike back to its former glory.

Work included checking and adjusting the valve clearances, replacement of the axle and headstock bearings, and overhauling both Brembo brake calipers with new seals. In addition, the seller fitted a JHP Performance air filter and the breather filter was replaced.

During this period, the bike was also fully serviced, with its engine oil and filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, brake and clutch fluid and timing belts having been changed – with the seller recommending that the next timing belt change should be carried out in April 2022.

Its last MOT test was conducted on 18 May 2020 at 14,596 miles, where it secured a first-time pass without a single advisory. While the tyres are in good condition, with at least 7mm of tread remaining, they are now 12 years old, and would benefit from being replaced before the bike is ridden on either the road or track.

Accompanying this 916 are all of its original Ducati handbooks and the dealer pack, plus a bundle of paperwork and photographic documentation of its refurbishment. The correct tool kit is also included and fitted under the seat. It comes with three keys, as well as a workshop manual.

This Ducati 916 Biposto is an excellent example of what is seen by many as one of the most beautiful motorcycles ever made. Benefitting from a full refurbishment and a number of additional enhancements, its next owner would be excused for simply gazing admiringly at its sleek lines and racy styling, but this is a bike that will be best enjoyed on the road and track.
