1995 BMW (E34) M5 TOURING

One of only 209 examples built in this mechanical specification, the E34-generation BMW M5 Touring offered here is equipped with the ‘final year’ six-speed manual gearbox and the Nürburgring Handling Package with electronic damper control. It is powered by the 3.8-litre ‘S38’ straight-six, with up to 335bhp sent to the rear wheels. This rare family express has 134,818km (83,772 miles) on the odometer.

Early in its life, this left-hand-drive machine was exported from Germany to Japan and was registered there in December 2000. While the exact number of previous keepers is not on record given the movement between countries, it has evidently been well maintained. The car was imported into the UK in 2018, and the seller has kept it for the past two years. While it is a taxes-paid and NOVA-clear example, the car has not yet been registered in the UK, though the trade seller can assist with this following the auction.

The Fjord Grey metallic paint is mostly original and shows only minor marks across the front end – visible in the gallery – plus some light hazing on the offside rear quarter panel. During its time in Japan, the front panels and the front passenger door had their paintwork refreshed, but the rest of the exterior is unchanged from when it left the factory. The seller can provide full paint gauge readings on request for anyone enquiring about its exact condition.

Its 18-inch wheels are spotless all around and, save for some light grazing on one of the headlight washers, the plastic trim pieces are all in excellent condition as well. The car has a factory sunroof which sits perfectly flush when closed and operates without issue. Its underbody is in excellent condition with no corrosion present – as the detailed photos in the gallery show.

The extended silver and grey Nappa two-tone leather upholstery is entirely original and also in excellent condition, with only minor wrinkles on the front seat bolsters and no discolouration to speak of. The four-spoke steering wheel shows remarkably little wear for its age and the car’s mileage, with the grain still showing clearly all the way around the rim. The seller reports that there are no faults with any of the systems or dashboard controls.

While it is in good running order, the car will have a full mechanical service before handover to the next owner. Prior to this, it had another recent service in Japan by a BMW specialist in November 2016 at 129,814km, when it was given new oil and ancillary items. It had the same service done in 2014 and 2012. The maintenance history also shows that the Electronic Damper Control system has been reconditioned. 

The car has not yet been put through an MOT, but this will be done as part of the registration process. Its matching set of 2011-dated Bridgestone Potenza tyres has 5mm of tread on the front pair and at least 3.5mm of tread at the rear. The original tool set is present and correct in the flip-down compartment on the inside of the tailgate, while the car comes with two keys, a BMW wallet, the original handbooks, and a large history file showing evidence of 14 previous services as well as other maintenance work.

This globetrotting BMW M5 Touring is in superb condition inside and out, matching a purist powertrain and sport-tuned chassis with everyday practicality and executive luxury – a true do-everything modern classic for the discerning car enthusiast. It has seen regular use throughout its life and deserves to continue on as such, being equally well suited to daily driver duties as it is to weekend fun.
