1994 PORSCHE 968 SPORT

This 1994 Porsche 968 Sport is an attractive modern-classic driver’s car, in rare factory Aventurine metallic with a black sport cloth interior, and is in excellent condition throughout. Powered by a 3.0-litre 237bhp inline-four, it has rear wheel drive with a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer reads 94,034 miles from new.

Only offered in the UK, the ‘Sport’ was based on a lightweight Club Sport version, which Porsche GB specified with the ‘luxury package’ option and with removal of ‘CS’ badging. The result was a car with Club Sport chassis upgrades, yet benefiting from electric windows, mirrors, boot release and removable sunroof, plus rear seats.

An original right-hand drive car, this example was registered in May 1994; its logbook showing six former keepers. It has been well-cared for and maintained by its current owner since 2012. He has a couple of 968s and the time has come to reduce the fleet.

Overall, the Aventurine metallic paintwork is in excellent condition, and there are only a few marks including some small stone chips on the front bumper and bonnet, in keeping with its road use. All of the rubber door and window seals are in good order, having been replaced in 2013, and the rear screen was changed in 2015 to correct a not uncommon problem; a failed demister. This 968 Sport rides on the correct set of 17-inch ‘Cup 2’ alloys, which have been refurbished, but now have a few minor marks and some paint flaking on the nearside front wheel.

The bodywork is in very good order. Its nearside rear wing was slightly damaged in 2014, but has been professionally repaired with a perfect paint blend. The bumpers and side skirts have also been repainted for cosmetic reasons.

In the cabin, the interior trim remains in excellent order, and the seat facings are upholstered in hardwearing black cloth. Their backs and sides are clad in black vinyl, and feature some marks and signs of wear, including a tear on the side of the driver’s outer bolster. Both the gear knob and steering wheel appear to be original, and while the former has worn slightly, the latter presents very well indeed.

Almost entirely original and unmodified, this 968 Sport has been fitted with a Profusion exhaust system and a Promax 7100 performance chip, though the original items are also available with the car. The chip is thought to add around 15hp to the power output.

Everything else is as standard aside from the addition of a Kenwood DAB radio head unit and DAB ‘bee sting’ aerial which were fitted in 2013 to enhance the range of entertainment available. The seller states that there are no faults with any of the interior buttons, switches or electrical items, and that there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

This front-engine performance car’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out in June 2018 at 91,130 miles by The Car Works, when the engine oil and oil filter were changed. Prior to this, it was serviced in August 2016 at 88,453 miles by ProMAX Motorsport, and in June 2015 at 87,453 miles by S&T Autos. While with ProMAX in 2016, the team also fitted the Profusion exhaust, rear spring frame bushes, and carried out a cam chain inspection – all were given a clean bill of health (pictures shown in the gallery).

Its cam belt was last replaced in January 2018 at 90,297 miles by specialist Carrera Engineering and previously in 2013 by RPM Technik and in 2009 by ProMax. Just prior to the seller’s ownership, a number of items were attended to by ProMAX, including the fitment of new front shock absorbers, brake pipes, fuel lines and underbody waxing in 2011.

Since purchasing the car, the seller has also carried out the following in addition to what has already been mentioned: new sunroof and rear hatch seals plus replacement of the car’s ECU in 2012; a new alternator in 2014; new brake discs and pads alongside a new radiator in 2016; and the fitting of a new thermostat, coolant temperature sensor and fan switch in October 2018.

Its last MOT test was conducted on 16 November 2020 at 93,955 miles, resulting in a first-time pass with one advisory, noting slight corrosion on the rear brake pipes. All four alloy wheels are fitted with Vredestein tyres which date to 2014, and the seller states that each is in good condition and with around 5-6mm of tread remaining.

This 968 Sport will be supplied with all of its original handbooks and a collection of previous invoices and purchase receipts. In addition, the vendor will also supply additional paperwork dating back as far as 1998, along with the car’s original toolkit, sunroof bag, collapsible spare wheel and air compressor. The two original keys and Porsche-fitted immobiliser fobs are still present.

This Porsche 968 Sport is a fine example of the marque’s final front-engine transaxle sports car of the 20th century. Combining the focused chassis of the 968 Club Sport with a number of desirable creature comforts, this UK-only variant offers the best of both worlds, and is sure to impress its next owner at every opportunity.
