1994 PORSCHE 968 SPORT

This Porsche 968 Sport is an appealing modern classic, presented in a vibrant factory colour, and in excellent condition throughout. Under the bonnet is the all-aluminium 3.0-litre inline-four engine, producing 237bhp, with rear-wheel drive via a six-speed Getrag manual transmission. The odometer shows 82,813 miles from new.

Officially referred to on the accompanying Porsche Certificate of Authenticity as a ‘968 Club Sport’, this car was one of the UK cars fitted with a range of options known as the ‘Luxury Package’, which in this case included electric windows, a removable sunroof, and rear seats. However, it has the same chassis upgrades of the more pared-back Club Sport models, so it drives just as smartly on the road.

The car was supplied via Chapelgate Porsche in Dorset, and was first registered in April 1994. The clear HPI report on file records just one previous registered keeper before the seller acquired the car in January 2018. He has enjoyed around 1,500 miles behind the wheel since then.

Its bodywork presents in very good order, with the only note from the seller in this respect being a small soft dent on top of the offside front wing, which he believes would be a good candidate for a paintless local repair. The Speed Yellow paint finish is generally in great shape, though there is a small blemish on the nearside rear wing where it meets the bumper panel - which is clearly shown in the gallery below. All of the light lenses are in superb condition, and the pop-up light pods work perfectly. The window and door rubbers are also in good order.

Its removable sunroof panel presents well, though there are a few small spots of chipped paint around the aperture that have oxidised. The door jambs and shut panels look very smart, and opening the bonnet reveals an engine bay that is remarkably clean and tidy. The seller reports that there are some light scratches on the driver’s door window, which are only visible in certain light conditions. It sits on a set of factory-correct silver 'Cup 2' alloy wheels, which were refurbished just over two years ago, and still look superb.

In the cabin, the interior trim looks superb, with the seat facings upholstered in black cloth, and black vinyl backings and side panels. There are no rips or defects to the fabric, and only very light wear in line with the age and mileage. Some very small marks are present on other sections of trim, but in general the interior presents very well indeed. Its three-spoke steering wheel and gear knob appear to be original and are in good order.

Factory-fitted equipment includes electric windows, a heated rear screen, and sunroof. This car does without the heavier air-conditioning system, instead featuring the basic heating and ventilation controls. An aftermarket Pioneer stereo head unit with DAB digital radio and a CD player is installed, though the original radio is still with the car should the next owner wish to refit it. There are new colour-coded floor mats to protect the black carpets. The seller notes that the battery voltage indicator gauge does not currently work, but there are no other known faults with any of the switchgear or electrics.

The last scheduled maintenance was in June 2018 at 81,682 miles, carried out by Porsche specialist Carrera Performance in West Sussex. This consisted of renewal of the camshaft timing belt, cam chain guides, balance belt, and a new water pump. The tensioners were also replaced, along with one of the rocker cover gaskets and all four spark plug seals.

Prior to this, it received a full service in January 2018 at 81,268 miles, carried out by marque specialist Cridfords in Surrey. This included replacement of the engine oil and filter, as well as new fuel lines, new brake discs and pads all round, refurbishment of the alloy wheels, and four new tyres.

Within the last few years, the clutch master and slave cylinders have also been renewed, and an uprated Aeroquip clutch line has been installed. It has received new service brake and handbrake cables, new door sill kick plates, and repairs to the LCD digital clock in the cabin.

The most recent MOT was on 22 May 2020 at 82,817 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories whatsoever. The tyres are still in great condition, having only covered just over 1,500 miles since they were fitted in early 2018.

Accompanying the car are all of the original books, including the driver’s manual and stamped guarantee and maintenance record. The 1994 bill of sale is also still in the history file, as well as some receipts for previous service work. Its original tool roll, jack, and space-saver spare wheel are also present.

This Porsche 968 Sport is a superb example of the breed, which was tracked down by the seller after spending many months to find a genuine and highly original car. A recent house move means he no longer has the space to keep it, which is the only reason for sale. This particular car benefits from the chassis upgrades of the 968 Club Sport, but adds in a few small convenience features to make it a more usable modern classic. It presents in very good condition throughout, and is sure to impress its next owner.

Please note: the cherished plate shown on the car is not included in the sale. It has already been re-registered on its age-related plate of ‘L489 LBE’.
