1994 PORSCHE 968 CLUB SPORT

This 1994 Porsche 968 Club Sport is a superb example of a highly-prized, limited-edition lightweight special. It is equipped with its original 3.0-litre inline-four all-aluminium engine, powered through a six-speed manual gearbox. The car has covered just over 117,000 miles from new, and is offered from 15-year ownership by the vendor.

It was first registered in April 1994, and the logbook shows four previous keepers, which include one of the directors of Ultima sports car company. The 968 Club Sport has been in the vendor’s collection for the last 15 years, and he has enjoyed some 50,000 miles behind the wheel. Having cared for the car meticulously during his ownership, including commissioning numerous improvements, he is now offering it for sale to an enthusiast who will undoubtedly enjoy it just as much.

The black paintwork is described as being in excellent overall condition, with a deep and glossy finish over the whole car. It was treated to a professional front end respray in 2013 by marque specialist, the only imperfections noted by the vendor are two minor paint chips in the offside wing. All of the exterior trim is in sound order. The car has also been given a full G-Tech detail.

A thorough inspection of the car reveals that the door jambs, wheel arches, bonnet and boot shuts are all in pristine condition. The car sits on the original 17-inch ‘Cup 2’ silver alloy wheels, which are unblemished and free of kerb marks.

Inside, the car’s cabin is in superb order, presenting as well as any car with half the mileage. It features the comfort seats - a no-cost option from the factory when new - which have since been re-upholstered in Porsche leather and Alcantara to ‘Sport’ specification during the vendor’s ownership. As you would expect, they are still in terrific condition, with only the slightest wear noticeable on the driver’s seat bolster. The leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear knob are the original factory-fitted items.

Subtle upgrades provide this 968 Club Sport with enhanced performance over the standard factory configuration. It features a wonderfully compliant KW Variant 3 suspension setup, and a full rear beam rebuild was completed when this was fitted. The front discs and calipers are 993 Turbo ‘Big Black’ items, and the rears are paired with MO30 discs. It also features an MO30 specification anti-roll bar.

Over the last eight years, the car has been exclusively looked after by Porsche specialist RPM Technik and - in the vendor’s words - has been given “everything that was required as directed by Ollie at RPM”, with no expense spared. The last maintenance at RPM Technik comprised of a thorough 36,000-mile service, with renewed camshaft timing belt, rollers and tensioners, as well as a new gear selector. There are invoices totalling £4,250.29 over the last 24 months from RPM Technik to keep this vehicle in top order.

It is covered by an MOT until July 2020, with the only advisory noted being for minor hairline cracks on the front tyres. The wheels are shod in a matching set of Pirelli P Zero Rosso N3-rated items in size 225/45 ZR17 at the front and 255/40 ZR17 at the rear, with a tread depth of around 4mm.

This car is accompanied by the original owner’s pack, including handbook, service directory and the stamped maintenance record. There is also a large file of invoices from Porsche specialists for work carried out during the vendor’s 15-year ownership, in addition to invoices for all services for the 10 years prior to this. It also comes with the factory-supplied space-saver spare wheel, the original tool roll and the rare factory sunroof slip case.

The Porsche 968 Club Sport is an exciting modern classic, and this particular car must be among the most well-maintained and well-presented examples of fewer than 60 cars currently recorded as on the road in the UK. Writing about the first drive of the model in 1993, Motor Sport’s Jeremy Walton concluded, “From start to finish we loved it. It’s a pure driving delight”.

Evo magazine contributor John Barker also revisited the model earlier this year, stating: “It’s an absolute joy, performance and grip almost perfectly matched to create a moment of transcendence that all the best-handling icons share. Cars like the Caterham Seven, original Lotus Elan and E30-generation BMW M3. Indeed, the Porsche is almost like an evolution of the four-cylinder M3; lower-slung and with a dollop more torque and grip.”

This superb, cherished car is now offered from its long-term home to a new owner who will get to discover what makes these cars so very special.
