KEY FACTS

• A very smart example of the sought-after homologation special, equipped with a range of high-performance modifications and supplied with a substantial collection of spare parts.
• Under the bonnet is the turbocharged 2.0-litre ‘SR20DET’ inline-four, now producing up to 289bhp, coupled with a five-speed manual gearbox and the ‘ATTESA’ all-wheel drive system.
• First registered in Japan in September 1994, this Pulsar was imported into the UK and registered with the DVLA in January 2005. It has had three private keepers since arriving.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• Based on the rather sedate Pulsar hatchback, the GTI-R variant was created to meet WRC Group A requirements, competing against the likes of the Lancia Delta HF Integrale and the Toyota Celica GT-Four.
• This example was originally specified with black paintwork over a two-tone cloth-trimmed interior.
• Factory-fitted equipment includes the model’s signature bonnet vent and rear wing, as well as a ‘Central 20’ ECU, a Nismo skid plate, a set of wind deflectors, a sunroof and an air conditioning system, which has since been removed.
• The original wheels have been replaced with 17-inch Rota Attack items, which frame uprated 300mm front brake discs with four-piston Brembo callipers and braided lines.
• It rides on Tanabe suspension struts and springs, and also features a Cusco rear strut brace, a new front strut brace, castor bushes, a rear subframe align and lock kit, and an adjustable rear anti-roll bar from Whiteline Performance.
• The battery has been relocated, and the inline-four is now fitted with a Walbro fuel pump, a T28 turbo with braided lines, a 360 thrust bearing, a Turbosmart dump valve, a Dawes boost controller, Samco blue hoses, a K&N ‘mushroom’ air filter, a stainless steel air filter relocator pipe, a Forge Motorsport oil breather, an ARC intercooler and a custom header tank.
• The engine is linked to a Scorpion cat-back exhaust with a Mongoose decat.
• The car also now features a ‘rear wiper park’ modification, along with additional AEM gauges, a custom gear lever mount and a Cobra alarm.
• It will be accompanied by a large folder of its Japanese history, a raft of maintenance invoices, a digital copy of the owner’s manual, and a notebook detailing all of the mechanical work performed since the car arrived in the UK.
• The car will also be supplied with a large number of desirable aftermarket and original parts, including an un-cut rear bumper, allowing it to be returned to its factory specification should its next owner desire.

CONDITION

• There is no known bodywork damage.
• The vendor reports that the underside of the car is impressively free of any corrosion, and while there is some minor flaking of the aftermarket components’ powdercoated finish this will not require any immediate attention.
• The black paintwork is reported to be in good overall condition, with the seller noting a few touched-in stone chips on the bonnet and bumper, two small bubbles on the rear wings and some flaking to the nearside lower section, in line with the car’s age and road use.
• There is a stone chip that has also caused a hairline crack in the passenger side of the windscreen near the pillar, so this will need to be replaced – and the seller understands it is the same windscreen fitment as a standard Sunny/Pulsar.
• Inside, there is some very light wear to the three-spoke steering wheel and grey fabric upholstery, but the cabin presents particularly well for its age.
• The vendor also notes that the aftermarket gauges can be removed from the driver’s-side A-pillar, and a replacement plastic trim piece will be supplied should the buyer prefer a more factory-fresh look.
• There are no known electrical issues.
• The car’s last MOT test was conducted on 13 August 2021 at 88,541 miles, which resulted in a pass with one advisory to monitor a worn front brake disc. It had failed the test earlier in the day, but the items were rectified before a re-test.

SERVICE HISTORY

• This Pulsar’s most recent service was carried out in August 2019 at 88,200 miles, when its previous owner changed the engine oil and filter.
• The vendor also notes that the clutch and brake fluid have recently been changed.

SUMMARY

Boasting numerous performance upgrades with nearly 290bhp on tap, this Nissan Pulsar GTI-R is a thrilling example of the Japanese homologation special. While some areas of the car would benefit from light improvement, it is ready to drive and enjoy as-is, or it could be returned to near-original specification should its next owner wish with the extensive collection of parts supplied.
