1994 MERCEDES-BENZ 320 CE AMG COUPE

This 1994 Mercedes-Benz 320 CE AMG is an elegant pillarless coupe presented in excellent condition, benefiting from a recent bare-metal cosmetic restoration. It is powered by the 217bhp 3.2-litre M104 straight-six engine, driven through the rear wheels via a 4G-Tronic (type 722.3) automatic transmission. The odometer shows 121,321 miles from new.

Built in Germany in July 1994 and delivered new to the UK, it was first registered in August that year. The factory specifications confirm that the car remains in the original colour combination, and that was ordered new with the highly desirable sports chassis, as fitted to the Sportline models.

The chassis upgrade comprises of a lower ride height with specially tuned suspension including stiffer springs, uprated anti-roll bars and higher-grade bushes. The car was also fitted with the 17-inch AMG light alloy wheels and aerodynamic bodykit, consisting of a deeper front bumper, sculpted side skirts and a boot lip spoiler.

Its bodywork and Bornite Metallic paint finish are in excellent condition, with the previous owner having commissioned a documented bare-metal repaint by a Mercedes-Benz approved specialist bodyshop. Today, the only blemishes noted are a few minor stone chips on the front bumper. Exposed surfaces were also undersealed during the renovation and given a protective Waxoyl treatment, and window seals were renewed. The car has only been driven on dry days by the vendor, and is always garaged when not in use.

The cabin is smartly trimmed in beige leather, accented by dark burr walnut veneers. Its leather upholstery is in very good order for the age and mileage, with no rips in the seat material and only the surface wear you would expect. The only note from the vendor on the interior is a slight crack in the walnut veneer on the centre console.

The front seats are heated, and the cabin is also equipped with dual-zone climate control. Other features include a power tilt-and-slide sunroof, auto-dimming rear-view mirror and cruise control. The rear seats have fold-down headrests, and the carpets are protected by tailored Mercedes-Benz overmats.

The last scheduled maintenance was in June 2018, which comprised an engine oil and oil filter renewal, as well as fresh brake fluid. During the vendor’s ownership, the head gasket has also been replaced, along with a new wiring loom and shock absorbers. It starts, runs and drives very smoothly with no rattles or clunks.

The two prior services in the history file are dated to July 2015 and June 2013. Its last MOT was on 10 May 2019 at 119,637 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. The alloy wheels are fitted with Dunlop SP Sport Maxx tyres at the front and Bridgestone Potenza RE050A at the rear, all in size 235/45 ZR17. The tyres are all in great condition with plenty of tread remaining.

Accompanying the car is original literature, including the owner’s handbook and maintenance record, along with numerous old invoices and receipts.

This Mercedes-Benz 320 CE is a very well-presented and mechanically sound example of the W124 series, which is renowned for its build quality and long-term reliability. Boasting original upgrades of the AMG kit and desirable sports suspension, this is a modern classic not to miss.
