1994 LAMBORGHINI DIABLO

This 1994 Lamborghini Diablo is an excellent example of the famed exotic and has been carefully updated with styling cues from the later Diablo VT 6.0. It is powered by a mid-mounted 5.7-litre naturally-aspirated V12, producing around 485bhp, driving the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. As with all UK-market Lamborghinis of the period, its odometer records in kilometres, and in this example it shows 67,840 km (42,153 miles) from new.

First introduced in 1990, the Diablo was an era-defining supercar, combining outlandish looks and blistering performance, with its 0-60mph time of just 4.5 seconds and top speed of 202 mph still being impressive some 30 years later.

This Diablo is an original UK market right-hand drive car. The log book shows six previous registered keepers and it has clearly been well cared-for over the years. The current owner acquired the car approximately two years ago, but has only driven it sparingly, adding just 600 miles to the odometer in that time. He purchased the car from Top Gear Specialist Cars, where the owner Carlo McCrindle is a well-respected name in the Lamborghini community.

Initially designed by Marcelo Gandini as the successor to the Countach and refined by Chrysler’s Tom Gale, the Diablo’s striking bodywork made it an icon, and a common subject of posters on bedroom walls around the world.

The front end of this car has been updated with the fitment of the front light panels and front bumper from a Diablo VT 6.0, replacing the original pop-up headlights with fixed units and giving the nose a more aggressive look thanks to the larger air intakes.

This example’s composite and aluminium panels are presented in superb condition, with no dents, dings or accident damage of any kind. The striking Rosso paintwork is also described by the seller as being in excellent condition, although at some stage the car has been resprayed. The only blemishes of note are a barely visible line of blisters where the roof and driver’s door join, and a scuff on the central underside of the front spoiler.

The headlight lenses are in fantastic, unmarked condition, with no signs of scratches or hazing, and the car’s glass is clear and chip-free, however the seller does note some delamination in the corners of the windscreen. This Diablo rides on 18-inch split-rim alloy wheels, as fitted to the Murcielago, which present excellently with no chips or kerb damage.

Open the scissor doors and you’re greeted by the sight of very smart Snowcorn Leather upholstery, which covers the slim bucket seats, centre tunnel and lower dashboard, accented by red piping. This is offset by black leather, which covers the upper dashboard and headlining, while there is beige carpeting throughout with cream floor mats.

The interior trim is described by the seller as being in excellent condition, with only modest wear to the seats, steering wheel and gear knob. All of the switchgear and electrical items, including the electric windows and air-conditioning system, are said to work without fault.

Regularly checked by an in-house mechanic prior to each drive over the last two years and fastidiously maintained, this Lamborghini Diablo is in superb mechanical condition. It has also been fitted with a Murcielago clutch and upgraded with power steering, making it far easier to manoeuvre than most early Diablos, especially at lower speeds.

The most recent scheduled maintenance was carried out on 3 June 2020 at 67,700 km by Synergy Supercars in Middlesex. This full service included replacement of the engine oil, oil filter and brake fluid, with checks being carried out on the brakes and suspension, and on the gearbox and transmission fluids.

Prior to this, Top Gear Specialist Cars in Scotland carried out a major service in January 2018. The work also included the correction of a number of minor issues, including the fitment of a new clutch, replacement of the valve sensor, a new fire ring to rectify a blowing exhaust, and the renewal of the front brake pads, nearside handbrake cable and driveshaft rubbers.

This Diablo’s most recent MOT test was on 4 June 2020 at 67,707 km, which it passed first time without a single advisory note. Its front wheels are shod with Pirelli P Zero Rosso tyres, measuring 245/35 ZR18, while the rears are Pirelli P Zero Asimmetrico items in size 335/30 ZR18. The tyres are estimated to be between eight and ten years old and have a good amount of remaining tread, although some minor cracking is visible on the sidewall of the nearside rear tyre.

The car is supplied with a new maintenance record book starting at 67,000 km, as well as numerous service invoices and receipts that go back to around 12,000 km. This Diablo is also being sold complete with its cherished ‘C18 BLO’ registration number.

A truly iconic supercar, the Lamborghini Diablo’s design and potent performance are as appealing today as they were in the early ‘90s. Tastefully modified, carefully maintained and presented in excellent condition throughout, this 1994 Diablo is a dream ‘poster car’ for many, and is sure to delight its next owner on every drive.
