1994 DODGE VIPER RT/10 ROADSTER

This 1994 Dodge Viper RT/10 is an iconic American sports car, presented in superb original condition with genuine low mileage from new. It is powered by the 400bhp 8.0-litre aluminium V10 engine, driven through the rear wheels by a six-speed BorgWarner T56 manual transmission. The odometer indicates just 20,676 km (12,847 miles) from new.

An original left-hand drive car, it stands apart from numerous other Vipers as it was delivered new to the UK, rather than being a later import. It was first registered in October 1994, having been supplied via the Chrysler and Jeep main dealer, Speeds of Derby. There are just four previous registered keepers on the V5C log book.

The paintwork is described by the vendor as being in excellent condition, and is believed to be the original factory finish, save for fresh paintwork on both sills that was carried out in 2020 – though there is no obvious evidence of any other remedial work carried out on the body. There are a few very small stone chips to the front end, and some other minor chips as shown in the photos below.

While the car is true two-seater roadster when you want to be exposed to fresh air, it also comes with a lightweight removable fibreglass hardtop. Its paint finish is also believed to be original, and has been chipped off around the corners and exposed edges while being removed and stored. The side windows are not original, and are fixed glass panels that can be removed as needed.

The car sits on the original three-spoke alloy wheels, which are in very good order with only very minor blemishes present. All four centre caps are still in place over the wheel bolts. The exhaust exits the car with a single tailpipe on each side, ahead of the rear wheels. All of the light lenses and body seals are in great shape with no damage.

Inside, the trim is believed to be all original, and its appearance is certainly consistent with the low mileage. The grey leather seat upholstery is in superb condition, with signs of light use. A few minor scuffs are present on the dashboard, but all of the switchgear works as it should, and the period Chrysler-branded radio and cassette player is still in place.

Ahead of the driver is the original leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear knob. All of the carpeting throughout is in good order, and the door trims are also in very good condition. At the back of the car, the spartan boot houses a space-saver spare wheel, and there is also a battery isolator switch fitted.

The Viper’s last scheduled maintenance was in May 2019 at Hughes of Beaconsfield, which comprised a standard oil and filter service, as well as a visual health check. The technicians noted that the exhaust heat shields may need some attention in due course. In February 2021, the Viper was fitted with a new battery, as well as a wired-in trickle charger connection for convenience.

Its last MOT test was on 4 June 2020 at 16,911 km (10,508 miles), which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. Bidders should note that testers have previously recorded some MOT results incorrectly in miles rather than kilometres. The alloy wheels are fitted with a fresh set of Michelin Pilot Sport tyres in 2020, at a cost of £2,200, which have since covered only 800 miles. They are size 275/40 ZR17 at the front and 335/35 ZR17 at the rear, and are in virtually as-new condition.

Accompanying the car is the original book pack, including the owner’s manual, stamped warranty and maintenance record, and a raft of old invoices.

Conceived in part as a modern interpretation of the Cobra sports car, the Viper has fostered its own community of fans and dedicated enthusiasts, with an iconic design and trademark V10 powertrain. While its packaging and performance evolved over the generations, the model always stayed true to the principles of the original RT/10 throughout 25 years in production.

This Dodge Viper is a highly original example of a true modern American classic. It is increasingly hard to find a low-mileage and unmodified RT/10 in such well-maintained condition, so this represents an opportunity not to be missed to acquire a cherished V10 sports car.
