1994 AUDI S2 AVANT

This 1994 Audi S2 Avant is a rare modern classic performance estate, which has been maintained to a high standard and is presented in excellent overall condition. Under the bonnet is the 2.2-litre turbocharged 20v five-cylinder engine, which produces around 230bhp and drives all four wheels via a six-speed manual transmission and the Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The odometer indicates 133,794 miles from new.

First registered on 25 November 1994, this S2 Avant was acquired by its current owner 11 years ago. As a quality controller for a manufacturer-approved bodyshop, the seller has a keen eye for detail, and has ensured that the car is kept in the best possible condition and is serviced on an annual basis, regardless of its use.

Thanks to its current owner’s exacting nature, this handsome Audi’s bodywork is in superb condition. While the bonnet, front wings and front bumper have been replaced to correct some cosmetic issues including corrosion and minor damage, original Audi parts were used, which is evidenced by the car’s even panel gaps. Having been partly resprayed, the Europa Blue paintwork is very smart, with a deep and glossy appearance around the car. As a result of this S2’s road use, there are some small stone chips on the bonnet, the front bumper and the front wings, but these are minor. Furthermore, the vendor notes that there is a small patch of corrosion on the tailgate, which they have opted not to repair as their intention was to fit a replacement panel in the near future (and a rust-free tailgate is included in the sale).

All of the exterior trim presents very well, and the headlight lenses and windscreen have been replaced with new items. This spacious performance car rides on the correct set of 16-inch six-spoke alloy wheels, which have previously been refurbished and are in great shape.

Moving inside, the cabin presents well, with some general wear in line with the car’s age and mileage, but no damage to speak of. The seats are still trimmed in their original grey leather coverings and feature various creases and signs of wear on their surfaces; however, new foam cushions have been fitted to the front seats, restoring their original levels of comfort and support.

Elsewhere, the interior plastics present very well indeed, and the wooden trim which adorns the door cards and dashboard is free of any chips or cracks. While it is in good overall condition, the light grey headlining is sagging towards the rear of the car, and will require replacement in due course. Entertainment is provided via a modern Blaupunkt Stockholm stereo, which features DAB radio and USB connectivity. All of the car’s buttons, switches and electrical items work without fault, and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

This S2 Avant’s most recent routine maintenance was an oil service, which was carried out at 132,900 miles by Individual Specialist Cars. Prior to this, the car has been serviced every year by the same garage during the vendor’s ownership, regardless of its use, and the cambelt was changed in 2015, with the car having covered only 3,000 miles since.

During the seller’s 11 years of ownership, they have also replaced a number of the car’s mechanical components with genuine Audi parts, including the suspension, the rear brake callipers, the water pump and the oil cooler. Its power steering rack has also been replaced, along with the fuel pump, heater matrix, radiator hoses, and ignition amplifiers.

Its last MOT test was conducted on 24 February 2021 at 133,729 miles, which resulted in a clean, first-time pass. All four wheels are shod in Dunlop SP Sport 01 tyres, which are in excellent condition and have 7mm of tread remaining.

The car will be supplied with extensive documentation of its history, including its full main dealer service history from new until 2006 / 74,000 miles, and from 96,000 miles to the present day. Spare parts that come with the car include a full coil pack, turbocharger, manifold, a rust-free tailgate, and other items.

Benefitting from frequent servicing and doted on by its owner of the last 11 years, this Audi S2 Avant is a fine example of the marque’s first performance-focused estate.
