1993 PORSCHE 928 GTS

This Porsche 928 GTS is a well-specified example of the marque’s luxurious GT car, which would now benefit from some sympathetic refurbishment. Under the bonnet lies the GTS-specific 5.4-litre V8, producing 345bhp and 368lb-ft of torque, powering the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. The odometer reads only 54,700 miles.

Originally delivered to the Middle East, this left-hand drive 928 GTS also features the US-specification side markers and impact bumpers. Initially registered on 31 December 1993, it is understood to have been imported into the UK in 2002, by the same owner who had the car in Dubai. This example is now offered for sale by the trade.

Presented in the popular and eye-catching colour of Guards Red, this Porsche remains in generally good order for its age. The vendor is not aware of any prior damage to the body, though the paintwork is described as being in fair condition. Some paint bubbles are visible on the door mirrors, fuel cap, and a driver’s side wheel arch, with paint damage also present on the edge of the driver’s door.

The distinctive pop-up headlights remain operational, with the car’s model-specific rear reflective light bar also in good condition. The five-spoke, 17-inch alloy wheels and their centre caps present in excellent condition.

Inside, the Porsche’s interior is entirely original, showing wear to all four seats, with surface cracking and discolouration to the black leather upholstery. With wood interior trim adding a retro touch of class, this example’s door cards have cracked and show signs of age-related damage. This 928 includes cruise control, air-conditioning, electric windows, and an aftermarket Sony CD player. The vendor states that all accessories including the sunroof are operational, with the exception of the brake light switch, which needs to be looked at.

While this car has been used very sparingly over the last eight years – covering around 900 miles in that time – there is no service history on record from the UK. The last documented maintenance was in September 2001 by Al Nabooda of Dubai at 48,932 miles (78,750 km). This was a full service with a replacement cambelt and waterpump fitted. Prior to this, regular servicing was carried out in October 2000 at 44,259 miles (71,228 km) by the same workshop, with the car also serviced by Behbehani Bros of Bahrain in November 1999 at 38,019 miles (61,186 km).

Since arriving in the UK, the most recent MOT test was on 8 December 2020, which was a first-time pass with zero advisories. Wearing a set of Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, these are date-coded to 2018 and retain around 6mm of tread.

This Porsche 928 GTS offers a rare opportunity to acquire a desirable ‘flagship’ of the series production model range. Offering a cosseting driving experience and sonorous V8 soundtrack, this example could – with some attention to the interior and the paintwork – be brought back to its former glory, as a reliable and characterful long-distance cruiser, or an unusual modern classic for the show season.
