1993 PORSCHE 911 (964) CARRERA 2

This 1993 Porsche 911 (964) Carrera 2 is a great example of Porsche’s rear-wheel-drive Carrera, which has been tastefully upgraded with performance-enhancing modifications. Powered by a 3.6-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine driving the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox, this example shows 118,465 miles on the odometer.

An original UK-market car, first registered on 26 February 1993, this 964 has been in the care of the current owner since July 2002. During their ownership, it has been modified with the goal of producing the ‘ultimate’ driver’s 964 C2. Included in this comprehensive package of upgrades is a limited-slip differential, upgraded Bilstein suspension with H&R springs, 964 RS anti-roll bars and engine mounts, a front strut brace, and a Dansk dual-outlet exhaust, complete with high-performance 100-cell catalytic converter.

The iconic Guards Red paintwork is in great condition throughout, with only a few minor marks on the front end which are commensurate with the age of the car. The paintwork is not original, however the finish is of a very good standard, and it would be difficult to tell it was not the factory paintwork on visual inspection. The standard ‘Cup’ wheels have been upgraded to a set of 996 GT3 two-piece wheels, and have been refurbished during the vendor’s ownership. In addition to the upgraded wheels, the fog lamps have also been replaced with intake ducts; however the original items are included with the sale of the car.

Inside the cabin, the original interior has been taken out and preserved, being replaced by a fully refurbished and re-trimmed interior, with the work having been completed during 2016. The seats, door cards and headlining are therefore all in great shape, presented with a custom diamond-stitched pattern. They show very little signs of any age-related wear, while the standard steering wheel has been replaced with that of a 993 Carrera RS. The door cards are 964 RS items, which have been re-trimmed with a diamond-quilted covering, complete with genuine RS door pulls and handles. Its carpet was also replaced with Porsche specification ‘silverknit’ material from trim specialist Southbound. During their ownership, the vendor has also upgraded to a Hamilton and Palmer Porsche central locking system, which ties in to the PA2000 alarm system. In addition to this, the stereo has also been replaced with a Continental unit complete with upgraded speakers.

Along with the aforementioned upgrades, the vendor has been through with the servicing and maintenance of this Carrera 2 while it has been in their care, with a plethora of invoices and receipts available. In recent years, the brake fluid and steering fluid have been flushed, the brake discs and pads have all been changed, and new anti-roll bar bushes have been fitted. The car has also received replacement alternator brushes and drive belts, engine mounts, and a distributor cap and rotor arm, along with a new battery in June 2020, and the rear light clusters were all recently replaced. The offside heater control servo has been replaced with a new item, along with the sunroof felts and closing arms. The clutch has also been replaced, which was done during the fitment of the limited-slip differential.

The last routine service took place during October 2020, and was carried out by Autostrasse Porsche specialist of Coggeshall at 118,323 miles. This was a major service, which included oil and filter changes, adjustment of engine tappets, and replacement spark plugs, along with a set of new rear drop links being fitted, and new rocker cover gaskets. Prior to this, the last two services took place in 2019 and 2018 at 117,698 and 117,137 miles respectively. The service history is extensive, and contains a mixture of OPC and specialist stamps.

The most recent MOT test was carried out on 11 November 2020 and resulted in a clean pass with no advisory items, after initially failing on emissions grounds due to the sports cat not being warmed up correctly during the first test. All four wheels are shod in matching Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres which were fitted in November 2020 at 118,365 miles.

Should the modifications made to the vehicle not be quite to your taste, the vendor notes that the original interior, Cup wheels, fog lamps, engine spoiler, exhaust, differential, intensive washer bottle, steering wheel, anti-roll bars, and a spare nearside rear bumper quarter are all included in the sale.

Presenting in superb condition throughout and benefitting from a raft of upgrades, yet retaining the desirable essence of an air-cooled 911, this Porsche 964 Carrera 2 makes a fantastic case for being an engaging and thrilling weekend car, without being too ‘hardcore’ to use on a regular basis, should you wish.
