EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• Specified from the factory without a sunroof, this is a desirable specification for 205 GTI ‘purists’. It is equipped with power steering, which undoubtedly makes the car easier to drive in modern traffic.
• Finished in its original colour scheme of white with a part-leather interior, this GTI also rides on the correct alloy wheels, and remains unmodified.
• The car even comes with its original Peugeot-branded Clarion radio cassette player.
• Accompanying the car is the original service book, paperwork pertaining to previous periods spent off the road under valid SORN certificates, a 1993 sales brochure, and a Haynes workshop manual.

CONDITION

• There is no known prior accident damage.
• In May 2019, the car received some minor paintwork, plus a deep clean and detailing of the wheel arches and door shuts. In December 2019, more notable refurbishment was carried out, with rust repairs and fresh paintwork to the offside rear quarter panel, offside front lower wing, engine bay, battery tray, boot floor and spare wheel cage - all at a cost of £1,284. The car now presents very well, as shown in the gallery below.
• Some of the plastic body trims have also been renewed, with a receipt for parts in the history file, and the four alloy wheels were refurbished in June 2019.
• Inside, the upholstery remains in generally excellent condition for its age, with some minor wear to the driver’s seat, but no heavy discolouration or significant damage elsewhere.
• The seller reports that the heater fan can be noisy at start up, but soon settles down. There are no other known mechanical or electrical foibles.
• The most recent MOT test was on 4 August 2020 at 39,804 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories.

SERVICE HISTORY

• In April 2021, the car was fitted with a new cam timing belt and tensioner at Redline Servicing in Buckinghamshire.
• Prior to this, in October 2020 it received new front suspension top mounts and drop links, plus a refurbished starter motor, from CP Motorsport in Kent.
• The same workshop saw the car in November 2019, for a major service that comprised an engine oil and filter change, new spark plugs, a new cam belt, water pump, and auxiliary belt, new front and rear brake discs, rear brake flexi hoses, and a new exhaust centre section and rear box.
• Four new Pirelli Cinturato tyres were fitted in May 2019.
• An engine compression test was carried out in April 2020 by Palm Bay Garage in Kent.

SUMMARY

This Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9 is a well-presented example of the acclaimed hot hatch, which benefits from some recent body and paintwork restoration, as well as a comprehensive service and cam belt replacement. An unmolested and largely original car in desirable ‘non-sunroof’ guise, this would be a particularly appealing addition to any collection of modern classics.
