1993 NISSAN SKYLINE (R32) TOMMY KAIRA

This Tommykaira-tuned 1993 Nissan Skyline (R32) is a rare, high-performance Japanese coupe, which is presented in great condition – and with all of the correct cosmetic and mechanical components which set it aside from the standard car. Under the bonnet is the tuned twin-turbocharged RB26DETT inline-six, which produces around 345bhp and drives all four wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer displays just 55,095km (34,234 miles) from new.

Understood to be one of only 95 R32-generation Rs produced by famed tuning house Tommykaira, this example retains its original bodykit, three-piece alloy wheels, Recaro seats and other interior trim items. Perhaps more notably, it also features uprated turbochargers and a Tommykaira ECU for improved performance, along with upgraded Bilstein shock absorbers for improved handling.

First registered in July 1993, the car was imported by the seller in 2001, and has covered 12,500 miles since arriving in the UK. It is currently under a valid MOT but is stored off the road under a valid SORN certificate.

Today, this Skyline’s sleek exterior and subdued Tommykaira body kit present very well, and the car has not suffered any accident damage to the seller’s knowledge. The silver paintwork has been partly or fully resprayed in the past, however this has clearly been completed to a high standard, and the finish has a smooth and glossy overall appearance. The vendor notes that there is a blemish on the boot lid and damage on the front lip which were caused when the car was shipped from Japan, and there are also some small age-related marks and stone chips around the vehicle.

The car rides on a rare set of 18-inch Tommykaira three-piece alloy wheels with silver painted faces and polished rims. All four are in great shape, save for some light kerb scratches on the edge of the front driver’s side item.

In the cabin, the correct Tommykaira-branded Recaro bucket seats are still fitted, and have few signs of wear to their black fabric upholstery. The leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob also present very well, as do the red on black gauges, which add a unique touch while also indicating the car’s increased performance.

The front carpets are protected by a set of grey Tommykaira mats, which are in reasonable shape, however the driver’s side item has worn through beneath the clutch pedal. A Blitz turbo timer and boost controller provide some additional reassurance following spirited drives, and the seller states that all of the cabin’s buttons, switches and electrical items work without fault, and that there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.

Driven sparingly and kept in storage for much of its time in the UK, this performance-tuned GTR is in good mechanical shape. Its most recent routine maintenance was carried out in June 2019 at 53,754km, when the engine oil and filter were replaced. Other routine servicing has been carried out during the vendor’s ownership, and the engine and gearbox were fully overhauled in 2004/2005 by Option Motorsport, at a cost of around £10,000.

In addition to its Tommykaira-fitted ECU, turbochargers and Bilstein shock absorbers, the car has also been enhanced with a full titanium Macchina exhaust system, providing it with a suitably aggressive soundtrack.

This GTR’s last MOT test was conducted on 6 August 2020 at 54,992km, resulting in a pass once issues with the nearside windscreen wiper, front and rear number plates, offside headlamp and rear fog lamp were corrected.

Deterioration of both the nearside track rod end ball joint dust cover and nearside front lower suspension arm ball joint dust cover were listed as minor defects, however these have since been replaced. Advisories were issued for excess noise from the offside front wheel bearing and exhaust, with the former having been repacked with grease since.

All four alloy wheels are fitted with Bridgestone Turanza BR300 tyres, which the seller describes as being almost new and in very good condition.

This rare Japanese-market performance car will be accompanied by all of its original books and logbook, as well as its shipping paperwork and invoices for its engine and gearbox rebuild.

Not to be mistaken for a ‘standard’ R32-generation Nissan GTR with a few choice upgrades, this Tommykaira-tuned example is a rare high-performance coupe, which has been built to OEM standards to provide notable reliability and impressive pace.

Presented in fantastic condition and with its original body kit and interior items intact, this low-mileage Nissan GTR Tommykaira is sure to appeal to any fan of Japanese performance cars, and will attract envious glances at every opportunity.
