1993 MERCEDES-BENZ (W463) 300 GES SWB

KEY FACTS

  • A unique, meticulously restored and sympathetically upgraded example of Mercedes-Benz’s unashamedly robust ‘Geländewagen’ 4x4.
  • Under the bonnet sits a 3.0-litre naturally aspirated inline-six petrol engine producing 168bhp, which is delivered to all four wheels through a four-speed automatic gearbox. It also features a low-range transmission and front, centre and rear differential locks.
  • Commissioned by the owner to deliver paintings in style and fulfil his ambition of building the ideal G-Wagen, over £50,000 has been invested in its build throughout the current keeper’s three-year ownership.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • The W463-era G-Wagen was released in 1990, and was designed to bring the model upmarket, as a competitor to the contemporary Range Rover.
  • This G-Wagen is finished in Blue Black metallic over a tan leather interior with synthetic suede highlights, and rides on 20-inch diamond-cut AMG alloys wheels shod with Dunlop tyres.
  • The car is equipped with an electrically operated sunroof a tow bar, an aftermarket Apple CarPlay-compatible stereo with Pioneer speakers and a reversing camera, a sound-insulated interior, tinted windows and xenon headlights.
  • It is accompanied by its owner’s manual, first aid kit, toolkit, five off-road wheels and tyres, a colour-matched rear wheel cover, front bumper bar, bespoke car cover, and the removed rear seats.
  • The cherished registration ‘RN 66’ is not included in the sale, and the car will revert to its original number plate of ‘L153 OMP’.

CONDITION

  • There is no known bodywork damage.
  • Fully resprayed in 2018, the Blue Black metallic paintwork presents very well, with only a few blemishes. These include a few stone chips to the front end of the car, minor bubbling on the bonnet, and some chipped paint near the fuel cap and to the offside of the windscreen. There is also an imperfection in the paintwork on the rear door from where the spare wheel was mounted, and a small scuff on the offside corner of the rear bumper.
  • The retrimmed tan leather interior is in very good condition and features grey synthetic suede highlights on the door cards. The owner reports some slight wear on the driver’s seat, only noticeable upon close inspection, and the decal on the hazard warning light switch has started to wear away. There is also a small crack on the walnut trim below the headlight switch.
  • The car is in sound working order, with no reported mechanical or electrical faults, and no warning lights on the dashboard.
  • The most recent MOT test was conducted on 5 July 2021 at 172,506 miles, when the car registered a clean first-time pass.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • This 300 GES was most recently serviced in January 2021 at 170,000 miles by 4x4 Matt Ltd, who carried out an engine flush and subsequently replaced the engine oil and filter as well as air filter, spark plugs, screen wash, wiper blades, engine coolant, and front brake discs and pads.
  • Prior to this, in December 2019, Mercedes-Benz specialist SS Motors repaired the exhaust mount, balanced all four wheels, and replaced the light switch.
  • During the current keeper’s ownership, he has fitted replacement suspension components, 20-inch AMG alloy wheels, lights and updated casings, Xenon headlamps, a reversing camera, window tints, a new exhaust system, interior soundproofing, an Alpine Apple CarPlay-compatible stereo and Pioneer speakers
