1993 MAZDA AUTOZAM AZ-1

KEY FACTS

  • This Mazda Autozam AZ-1 is a characterful mid-engined Kei-car, offered in very good condition following a recent mechanical overhaul.
  • It is powered by a 66hp turbocharged 657cc inline-three from Suzuki, driving the rear wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox.
  • The car was imported to the UK and re-registered with the DVLA in February 2019, and features a few subtle performance upgrades.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

  • This Mazda Autozam AZ-1 is finished in Siberian Blue and Venetian Grey two-tone paintwork, with black and blue fabric upholstery in the cabin.
  • It rides on a set of refurbished OEM wheels, which are wrapped with JDM-specific Dunlop Direzza DZ101 155/65/13 tyres.
  • It has a Mazdaspeed bonnet with a larger central air intake and bubble headlights, also featuring a stainless steel exhaust and Navi Street coil-over suspension.
  • The cabin comes equipped with a suede Sparco steering wheel, air conditioning, chequered JDM floor mats, and leather handbrake and gear knob gaiters.
  • Accompanying the vehicle will be a rare 1/43 scale model replica, along with a collection of maintenance invoices and MOT certificates.

CONDITION

  • There is no known prior bodywork damage.
  • The car was resprayed when it arrived in the UK, and now presents very well. The vendor has reported a small scuff beneath the offside front splitter, which is only visible from the underside.
  • There are some light scratches in the window glass.
  • Inside, there is some light wear to the driver’s seat bolster, but as the two-tone upholstery is entirely original, it looks very good for its age.
  • The vendor reports that the instrument binnacle is cracked, and that it has been patched with vinyl as a replacement was not available.
  • The stereo has been removed to accommodate a cupholder and storage area, but the wiring and speaker system remain intact.
  • The most recent MOT test was on 4 June 2021 at 108,600 km, which was a clean pass with no advisories or defects.

SERVICE HISTORY

  • The car was overhauled when it arrived in the UK, which comprised the fitment of a new cam belt, AC belt, alternator belt and tensioners, along with a new water pump, cam and crank sensor seals, a thermostat, a coolant temperature sensor, silicone coolant hoses, a new distributor cap and rotor, new fuel filters and hoses, Monster Sport engine mounts, and new HT leads and spark plugs.
  • It was given a new Exedy clutch and bearings, and an OEM clutch cable. The wheel bearings and seals were also replaced, and the wheel hubs and knuckles were reconditioned and powder coated. Underneath, the car was fitted with new control arms, tie rod ends and stiffened Monster Sport suspension bushes.
  • The brakes were overhauled, and stopping power now comes from OEM front brake callipers, dust-shielded Dixcel HD-type brake discs, Project Mu pads and stainless steel hoses.
  • The windscreen wiper, door weather strips and front sidelights and indicators have also been replaced.
