1993 LANCIA DELTA HF INTEGRALE EVO II

This Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione II is a wonderful example of one of the most popular rally-rep hot hatches. Its engine is the 2.0-litre turbocharged 16-valve four-cylinder, with four-wheel drive through a five-speed manual transmission. Far from being an ultra-low mileage garage queen, this car has been used as intended and is all the better for it, now showing 102,766 km (63,855 miles) from new.

An official dating letter in the history file states that the car was completed in 1993, but the guarantee booklet confirms that it was first registered in Italy in 1994. It only spent a few years in its home market, and has been in the UK since 1999. In mid-2005, marque specialist Walkers fitted a new engine, understood to be one of the very last original motors built by Lancia. At the end of 2006, the car was taken off the road and stored for four years, before being thoroughly recommissioned in late 2010. The seller has owned the car for nearly two years, enjoying some 2,000 km behind the wheel in that time.

The bodywork of this Integrale remains in very good order, with no panel damage. Its Rosso Monza paintwork has been refreshed at some point in its history, but still presents superbly. There are some small stone chips around the body, and some chipped black paint on the B-pillar between the doors.

All of the light lenses are correct, and free of chips and cracks, and the rubber window seals are also in great shape. In 2010, the alloys were upgraded to 17-inch items in the original style. They are still in generally good order, with only a few small kerbing marks around the rims.

Inside, the car retains its factory-fitted high-back Recaro front seats, which are trimmed in the original beige Alcantara. There is some scuffing and slight discolouration on the side bolsters that is to be expected from an Integrale that has been used as intended, but there are no rips or tears in the material. All of the plastic trims are in excellent condition, as is the headlining.

The original Momo Corse steering wheel is still present, though the gear knob has been changed to a bespoke item. There are no faults with any of the instrument gauges or switchgear, but the air-conditioning is not currently functioning. The stereo has been upgraded to a contemporary Kenwood head unit with CD player, USB socket and Bluetooth connectivity, along with Infinity Reference speakers in the parcel shelf.

Opening the bonnet reveals the correct red-painted cylinder head, and a very tidy engine bay. The only modifications to the stock specification are a set of Evo II Final Edition coil springs, a Walkers Garage stainless steel tubular manifold and exhaust system, stage one ECU tuning upgrade to 260hp, and the 17-inch wheels.

Its last scheduled maintenance was in March 2019 at 101,950 km, carried out by the engineers at Webster and Lancaster in Hertfordshire. It comprised a major service, with renewal of engine, gearbox, and differential oils; replacement of all belts, tensioner and guide pulley bearings, spark plugs, and a new water pump. The rear brake calipers were stripped and rebuilt, and cosmetically refurbished, and new brake discs and pads were fitted all round.

Prior to this major work, the car was also seen and serviced in February 2017 and April 2015. The clutch was last replaced in 2011 at approximately 93,000 km. The upgraded 17-inch wheels were fitted in 2010 at 91,471 km. The brand-new engine was installed by Walkers when the car had 78,077 km on the odometer, so the motor has only covered around 25,000 km (15,500 miles) since then.

The most recent MOT test was on 27 September 2019 at 102,593 km, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories whatsoever. In fact, over the last seven years of MOT tests covering some 6,900 km on the road, it has never had a single advisory or alert, which is testament to the car’s impressive mechanical condition. The wheels are fitted with Toyo Proxes tyres in size 235/40 ZR17.

Accompanying the car is the original blue book pouch, housing the owner’s manual, stamped guarantee and maintenance record, and the HF Integrale supplement. There is also a good history, with numerous old invoices and receipts for service work. Two keys, and a tool bag with jack, are also present.

This Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione II is a great example of one of the genuinely iconic hot hatches. Its rally-derived styling and addictive performance means that it finds fans in almost every age group. For those who have an Integrale on their ‘bucket list’, this particular car is one for those who just want to get out and drive.

The car is offered from the Horizon Classics collection, which has been assembled by a passionate enthusiast who has always bought cars that he will drive and enjoy. They are all kept in superb mechanical order, ready to take out at a moment’s notice, and represent some of the most popular modern classics.
