1993 JAGUAR XJS V12 CONVERTIBLE

This Jaguar XJS Convertible is an excellent example of the rare modern classic cruiser, benefiting from all of the upgrades of the later facelift model. It is powered by a 304bhp 6.0-litre naturally aspirated V12, driving the rear wheels through the later four-speed GM 4L80E automatic transmission. The odometer indicates just 54,560 miles.

First registered in July 1993, this Jaguar was acquired by the vendor in August 2017. As a post-facelift car, its wings, sills and floorpans were galvanised, and the interior also featured 2+2 seating. A full leather interior was standard, along with inlaid wood veneers, while the suspension had also been upgraded with revised springs and strengthening bars. It is understood that only around 73 examples of the standard 6.0 V12 Convertible were built, making this a truly rare drop-top.

Its bodywork is in good condition, with no signs of any prior damage, and with flush shut lines all around the car. The black paintwork is believed to be all original, and presents with just a small scuff on the offside front bumper, and the odd minor imperfection as shown in the photo gallery. The original bonnet badge has been replaced with a Jaguar ‘leaper’ mascot, but the factory-supplied flat badge is also included should the next owner wish to change it back. At some point in the car’s past, the headlights have also been changed to the US style twin-lens units.

The interior of this XJS is in great shape, with the beige leather showing minimal wear. There is some patina on the front seats, a few minor marks in the upholstery elsewhere, and some discolouration of the seat belts. However, overall the cabin is in excellent condition, commensurate with the low mileage. Driver and front passenger both get electrically adjustable heated seats, while there is also automatic air-conditioning, the original Jaguar stereo, and cruise control.

The last scheduled maintenance was in August 2018 at 50,825 miles, carried out by specialist Clarkes Jaguar. This was an engine oil and filter service, including replacement of the ignition leads, distributor cap, lambda sensors, and antifreeze. The flywheel and camshaft sensors were also renewed, along with the rear window motor and mechanism. Clarkes Jaguar serviced the car in August 2017 as well, when they also replaced the spark plugs, cruise control ECU, alternator, drive belts, battery, and two speakers. During the vendor’s ownership, the air intake has also been replaced, and a new exhaust bracket was fitted.

The most recent MOT test was on 13 April 2021 at 54,611 miles, when it achieved a clean pass one the offside steering rack gaiter was replaced and the exhaust was attended to.

Accompanying the car is the original handbook, stamped service book, and a folder containing various service history paperwork and old MOT certificates. The spare wheel is also present, along with the jacking kit, and the factory-supplied tool kit still in the wrapper.

This Jaguar XJS 6.0 V12 Convertible is a rare and collectible modern classic, which has a raft of improvements over the earlier models, and which was only built in very small numbers - with this car understood to be one of just 73 such examples. Benefiting from a solid maintenance record, significant service items within the last four years, and a timeless colour scheme, this could be a great first classic, or a smart addition to any assembly of Jaguar cars.
