1993 BENTLEY CONTINENTAL R

This Bentley Continental R is a highly original example of the marque’s flagship luxury coupe of the 1990s, which boasts an outstanding maintenance history. Under the long bonnet rests a 6.75-litre turbocharged V8 producing around 325bhp and 450 lb-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. The odometer reads 66,161 miles from new.

Initially registered on 11 February 1993, this Continental R has been in the hands of its most recent owner for the past four years, with only eight previous keepers on the log book.

Finished in Georgian Silver, this understated hue matches the neatly sculpted lines of the Continental R well. The vendor explains that the driver’s side door has previously been repainted, following an act of vandalism where the door was dented and ‘keyed’. Overall, the paintwork presents very well, with small stone chips to the front end and some slight scuffs underneath the front bumper. Its rear bumper is slightly out of alignment, and there is also some damage visible on the nearside – perhaps having been removed from the car in the past to be painted. The light lenses and chrome remain in good order, with no pitting visible. It rides on the original 16-inch wheels, which would benefit from refurbishment to bring them up to the same standard as the paintwork.

Inside, the Bentley’s opulent cabin is an alluring combination of leather and wood. The black leather interior has worn well, with only modest signs of use on the front seats commensurate with the age and mileage. The leather-stitched dashboard presents well, while all dashboard switchgear is complete and in full working order. There are some marks visible on the passenger-side door card, though these hardly detract from what is otherwise a very well-preserved interior.

This British GT was most recently serviced in October 2020 at 66,105 miles by Webb’s of Weybridge Ltd, where it received an oil change. Prior to this, services were also carried out by the same workshop in October 2018 and May 2017. During the vendor’s ownership, the car has not required any repairs or replacement components beyond a new battery. A service history summary is included below.

The most recent MOT test was on 28 October 2020 at 66,125 miles. This was a first-time pass with zero advisories, with the Bentley holding a particularly impressive MOT history throughout its life to date. Riding on Avon Turbospeed tyres, these all have approximately 4mm of tread remaining.

Offering old-world charm with bags of style, effortless performance and a superb maintenance history, this Bentley Continental R represents the last of the hand-crafted models prior to the brand’s acquisition by the Volkswagen group in the late 1990s. While its relatively low mileage will certainly appeal to collectors, this example deserves to be enjoyed on the open road, where it will impress all occupants with its luxurious interior and refined driving manners.
