1992 PORSCHE 911 (964) CARRERA RS CLUBSPORT - LHD

This Porsche 964 Carrera RS Clubsport - also known as the N/GT - is an eminently usable example of a thrilling and rare lightweight 911 from the early 1990s. It is equipped with a 3.6-litre naturally aspirated ‘M64/03’ flat-six, driven through a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 76,884 km.

While 2,282 examples of the 964 Carrera RS were produced in total, just 290 of these were built in ‘Clubsport’ specification to FIA Group N regulations and for GT racing - hence the alternative N/GT moniker. This is car number 135 of that very limited production run.

Incorporating the seam-welded shell of the standard RS model, it also featured an aluminium boot lid, bucket seats for driver and front passenger, thinner rear and side windows, and rear seat delete. The M003 Clubsport package also stripped out all of the sound deadening material, installed a welded-in roll cage, and added racing harnesses, a larger fuel tank and a master cut-off switch.

This is a genuine N/GT specification car with the M003 Clubsport package, originally supplied by the Porsche Centre in Soest, Germany, in May 1992. Soon after this, the front and rear wings were replaced with the wider RSR specification items in steel. It is understood to have had a second owner in Germany before it was imported to the UK and re-registered here in December 1998. The original engine is no longer with the car, but it is fitted with a correct type M64/03 engine, which was only fitted to the RS models, and is stamped as such.

A previous UK owner had the car shipped to Australia in 2002 to take part in the Adelaide Rally. During this event it was driven by ex-works 91 driver Nick Faure, and its rear wing was signed by several famous drivers, including Sir Jack Brabham, Johnny Herbert and Win Percy.

It has been with the current owner for nearly 12 years, and has been thoroughly enjoyed during this time, travelling extensively around Europe and being kept well maintained mostly by Porsche specialist Autofarm. This specialist was also responsible for fitting genuine Porsche wide body skirts and bumpers in 2008, and the vendor has spent more than £60,000 with them since then.

Today, the bodywork and paint presents in good condition, and is finished in the paint-to-sample colour of ‘Ferrari Yellow’. There is no known previous damage to the panels, though as stated the wings were upgraded to the RSR style very early in its life. The vendor reports the front end has been repainted during his ownership to rectify larger stone chips, and that there are now only some minor chips acquired from road use.

In the cabin, there are colour-coded Recaro bucket seats, which have been re-trimmed in flame retardant black fabric, and with Porsche crests on the backrests. The roll cage remains in good order, and there are Willans safety harnesses for both driver and passenger. Its lightweight door cards are in great shape, accented by the red fabric door release pulls. Ahead of the driver is a three-spoke Momo Corse steering wheel, while black carpets and floor mats have been added to give the interior a degree of comfort and noise insulation on longer-distance tours. All of the switches and controls are in working order, and there are no warning lights on the dashboard.

The last scheduled maintenance was in August 2020, when Northway Porsche carried out a major service at 76,883 km. During this service, the brake discs and pads were renewed on all four corners, along the handbrake shoes and anti-squeal shims, and the front wheel bearings were also replaced.

Previous recent services were in August 2018 at 73,281 km, and in March 2016 at 70,380 km, both at Autofarm. During the latter, the front wishbones were replaced, the ABS system was repaired, and it underwent a geometry setup.

The most recent MOT test was carried out on 15 May 2018 at 71,655 km, when it achieved a first-time pass with no advisories. It will be put through an MOT test during the auction, so a fresh 12-month certificate will be ready for the next owner. The rear tyres are essentially brand new, having covered only 20 miles since being fitted, while the front tyres are older but still with more than 7mm of tread.

Accompanying the car is an original dark red book wallet, housing a stamped service record, plus extensive invoice paperwork covering all of the work done over the last 12 years. A toolkit is also present, as well as the space-saver spare wheel.

This Porsche 964 Carrera RS Clubsport (N/GT) is an exceptionally rare ‘Rennsport’ model, presented in excellent condition. With a substantial amount spent on servicing and maintenance over the last 12 years in particular at a renowned Porsche specialist, the vendor says that this 911 genuinely “wants for nothing”. Boasting a strong engine recorded at around 270hp, not to mention some discerning cosmetic upgrades to the RSR style appearance, this is a riotous road car that is sure to thrill its next owner on the public highway or the track alike.
