This 1992 Mercedes-Benz (W124) 230E is a very smart example of the modern classic executive saloon, which is in good order throughout. Under the bonnet is a 134bhp 2.3-litre inline-four, coupled to a four-speed automatic transmission. The odometer currently indicates 75,412 miles from new.

Finished in Cabernet Red (‘Pajettrot’), this W124 was first registered in December 1992, supplied by B&K Thomas Ltd (Mercedes Benz of Nottingham). It has five previous keepers on the V5C, and has been in the hands of its current keeper for the last year.

The distinguished bodywork of this Mercedes is all in good shape, and the condition of its metallic red paintwork has been described as excellent. The vendor has pointed out a couple of age-related blemishes, though the finish retains a rich and deep hue. There are some lovely original touches around the car, including the supplying dealer’s sticker in the rear window. The broad grille is in very good order, with no cracks in the vented slats, while the trims covering the 15-inch wheels are pristine.

Inside, the seats are trimmed with beige cloth, which is believed to be entirely original. W124s are renowned for their robust build quality and hardy cabin trims, and this car is no exception. The upholstery is in truly excellent condition for its age, with minimal creasing and a fresh, bright appearance. The dashboard and centre console are trimmed with burr veneers, which have some small cracks in the lacquer, but are generally in good order. Its steering wheel is original and shows only modest wear, while convenience features include electric windows on all four doors, and dual-zone climate control. An aftermarket Sony stereo has been installed, and no electrical faults have been detected. A new aerial has also been fitted.

The vendor notes that a fresh service will be carried out prior to handover, and that the car appears to have been well-maintained throughout its life based on the condition today. It had four services at the supplying dealer B&K Thomas Ltd, and has had a further six services at MB Specialist. Accompanying the vehicle are the original handbooks and service book.

The most recent MOT test was on 3 November 2020 at 75,372 miles, which resulted in a pass with just one advisory to monitor a minor exhaust leak – and this has since been rectified. The wheels are wrapped with a combination of Bridgestone and Firestone tyres, which are reported to have plenty of tread remaining.
