KEY FACTS

• A cherished example of the R129 roadster with a few cosmetic upgrades and a factory hard top.
• The 500SL is powered by a 5.0-litre 32-valve naturally aspirated M119 V8 engine producing around 322bhp at 5,500rpm, which is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission.
• In the same ownership for the last 18 years, the car has been kept in a heated garage and has covered only around 1,000 miles during this time.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• This particular 500 SL benefits from the inclusion of the factory hard top, and has been retrofitted with upgraded AMG wheels and a rear boot lid spoiler.
• A set of contrasting body stripe decals have also been applied to the car.
• Its factory specification includes electric windows, climate control, heated front memory seats, and optional rear seats.
• The standard exhaust has been swapped out for a stainless-steel system, which unlocks greater aural character from the naturally aspirated V8.
• Included with the car is the full set of handbooks and manuals, stamped service history, V5 showing four former keepers and the factory tool set. The original wind deflector is also present.
• The car had a documented speedometer swap at around 17,000 miles, so the current total mileage is 46,679 miles.

CONDITION

• There is no known body damage.
• The Pearl Blue metallic paintwork is in excellent shape, thanks largely to having covered so few miles in the last 18 years, with only very minor stone chips visible to the front end and exposed edges, along with small scuffs on the inner corners of the front splitter.
• Inside, the cabin presents very well for its age. There is slight ‘patina’ visible on the leather seats, but no significant wear or discolouration, commensurate with the low mileage and indoor storage.
• There are no known faults, and no warning lights on the dashboard.
• The most recent MOT test took place on 21 June 2021, and resulted in a clean pass with no advisories.

SERVICE HISTORY

• This 500 SL was last serviced during January 2003 at an indicated 26,041 miles (approximately 43,000 miles), so would of course benefit from a recommissioning maintenance visit before taking to the road again. However, it is believed to be in good mechanical order, with no MOT failures in the last 15 years of tests.
• Recently, the car has been fitted with a full set of new brake discs and pads.
