1992 JAGUAR XJ-S 4.0 COUPE

This 1992 Jaguar XJ-S 4.0 Coupe is a refined grand tourer, which presents in solid condition throughout. Under the bonnet sits the 4.0-litre ‘AJ6’ straight-six, coupled with a four-speed automatic transmission. The odometer currently indicates 98,076 miles from new.

First registered in 1992 in the UK, this XJ-S remained in its home market until April 2019, when it was exported and re-registered in Germany with the current owner.

The car’s distinguished bodywork is in good shape, and it is finished with rich burgundy paintwork. The finish is now in good condition, though some age-related stone chips can be seen on the front bumper, bonnet and wheel arches, alongside some scratching and discolouration around the edges of various chrome trim pieces. A few similar scuffs and scratches can be seen on the rear end, though the rear wing presents well and the car’s 16-inch wheels feature just some slight wear to the red centre caps.

Inside, the cream leather upholstery boasts a handsome patina, along with some age-related creasing and some wear to the outer bolsters. A few small patches of discolouration are visible in the door card leather, though the walnut inserts are in great shape. A few surface marks can be seen on the four-spoke steering wheel, and the metal gear selector and surrounding switchgear controls present well. The fuel gauge has an intermittent fault – believed to require a new float/sender – but there are no other known electrical faults.

The last routine maintenance was undertaken in July 2020, where technicians at J. Wenk’s Automobil-Service in Hamburg changed the engine oil and brake fluid, before fitting new front brakes. The headlights have received the US style dual-lamp conversion, and have been adjusted to meet European regulations, while the tyres are reported to be in good condition, all with at least 4mm of tread remaining.

Around one year before leaving the UK, the car was put through an MOT test on 24 April 2018 at 95,441 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories after a number of suspension components and bushes were replaced.

Accompanying the vehicle are the original owner’s manual, service book and authenticity certificate, along with a raft of maintenance invoices.

This Jaguar XJ-S 4.0 Coupe is a smart example of the classic grand tourer, with an appealing colour scheme and solid maintenance history. It is offered in good order throughout, and would make a stylish classic cruiser.
