1992 FORD FIESTA XR2i

This Ford Fiesta XR2i is a well-presented example of a classic British performance hatchback from the ‘90s. Believed to be one of only approximately 150 examples still road-registered in the UK, this XR2i is a rare and iconic Fast Ford from the heyday of the hot hatch. Fitted with the peppy 1.8-litre Zetec engine, this Fiesta has been driven and enjoyed as intended, and presents in good order today.

First registered on 1 August 1992, K331 DNO now displays 102,168 miles on the odometer. Considering the mileage, this XR2i appears to be in very smart condition. It presents as a well-preserved example with just one previous private owner from new. The current owner has had the car for a year, though has not registered the car in his name.

Finished in Moondust Silver, the current owner states the paintwork benefits from a respray within the last few years. The panel work is straight with no known damage, and the Moondust paintwork remains bright and presentable. Detailed inspection shows a scratch of red paint on the edge of the front bumper and the vendor reports a minor scratch to the front wing. There are a few detail imperfections around the grille and door shuts which are again visible in the pictures. The wheels fitted are in good condition but are reportedly not original to the car; however the originals will be included in the sale.

The interior trim is akin to the high standards of the exterior with the original velour seat covers only showing signs of wear in high contact points such as the driver’s seat bolsters. The plastic trims again present very well for their age. High touch areas such as the steering wheel and dashboard switchgear again remain in good order.

All electrics are reportedly in full working condition including the original equipment radio cassette. The only imperfection reported is a lifting of the material on the rear armrest card due to age-related shrinkage.

Offered with a stamped service record up to 54,246 miles in 2001, there are unfortunately no additional maintenance records until very recently – though there is online MOT history showing the mileage accrual between 2006 and the present day. In September 2019, a new fuel pump was fitted in the petrol tank, while the last service was completed at approximately 101,500 miles by BS3 Garage Services of Bristol, which included an oil and filter change.

The most recent MOT test was on 18 March 2020 at 101,953 miles. In initially failed on a worn ball joint dust cover a few days earlier, as well as minor lighting faults, but these were subsequently rectified. It then passed with no advisories.

Pleasingly, this car retains its original Ford owner’s wallet, housing the stamped service record, user guides and various period literature – including a copy of the original purchase agreement from 1992.

This Ford Fiesta XR2i represents a great opportunity to own an increasingly rare ‘90s hot hatch, with aggressive styling, a characterful engine and a very well-preserved interior. Some recent cosmetic renovation helps to elevate this example’s desirability, not to mention its highly original condition.
