1992 FERRARI 512 TR - 11,442 KM

This Ferrari 512 TR is an excellent example of the Italian marque’s iconic flat-12 supercar, boasting exceptionally low mileage and Classiche certification. Under the bonnet is a 4.9-litre flat-12 engine producing 422bhp and 362lb-ft, driving the rear wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. The odometer shows just 11,442 km (7,109 miles).

This particular example began life in Milan, being delivered on 1 April 1992 by Crepaldi Auto SpA. Now reported to be offered for sale by only its second private owner, the car has spent the last five years in the possession of the vendor. While the reasons for doing so are not confirmed, it is a matter of record that this 512 TR was rebodied by Ferrari two years into its life, which is included in the Classiche file.

Finished in the definitive shade of Rosso Corsa, the 512’s flamboyant lines are highlighted by the excellent condition of the paintwork. This finish remains superb throughout thanks to the application of Xpel paint protection film, with all panels displaying an even hue commensurate with the very low mileage to date. Even the low wedge-like front end has escaped the damage which can afflict higher-mileage examples, underlining the level of care which has been taken with this example.

The factory-fit five-arm 18-inch alloys remain in excellent condition and are free of kerbing marks. One of the centre caps shows some slight lacquer peel, and there are very minor marks on the wheel faces in a few places.

Inside, the Ferrari’s black interior remains in highly original condition. The supportive leather seats only exhibit slight signs of use and ageing, most noticeably on the driver’s seat bolsters, but with no rips or tears to the material. The dashboard finish has lifted slightly above the central HVAC vents, which is a relatively common flaw of Testarossas and 512s of the era, but is otherwise it is in very good condition. The Ferrari-branded sill kickplates are still largely protected by the original shipping plastic, though this has perished slightly on the driver’s side. There are no known electrical faults, and the vendor reports that all switchgear is currently working as it should.

The 512 TR was most recently serviced in April 2020 at 10,885 km (6,763 miles) by marque specialist Keys Motorsport of Silverstone. This was a major service with a replacement cambelt, replacement of the cam cover gasket and oil seals, uprated fuel lines, and with renewal of the cambelt tensioner bearings.

Prior to this, the Ferrari was serviced in May 2019 at 10,831 km (6,730 miles) – when it also received its Classiche certification – and had another major service at a cost of around £9,000 carried out in August 2017 at 10,467 km. The latter service included renewal of the cambelt and the V-belts, as well as the spark plugs, the rear upper and lower suspension bushes, and the nearside shock absorber bushes. The gearbox oil and coolant were changed, and all four wheels were balanced and given a full geometry and alignment session.

During the vendor’s ownership, the brake pads on all four corners have also been replaced, and the brake discs have been deglazed. The underside has been thoroughly cleaned, the fuel filters have been replaced, and a new coolant header tank was installed.

The most recent MOT test was on 16 October 2020 at 11,428 km (7,101 miles). This, like the 2019 check, was a first-time pass with zero advisories. Shod in matching Pirelli P-Zero tyres on all four corners, these are as-new with no sidewall damage and ample tread remaining.

This highly original example is supplied with its complete Ferrari tool kit and original handbook set, both in their Schedoni leather cases/pouches. Nearly 29 years on, it also retains the original inspection torch and three keys. As well as a good history file, it also comes with the red Ferrari Classiche certificate of authenticity binder.

This Ferrari 512 TR is a beguiling example of the marque’s 1990s pin-up. While the car was rebodied by Ferrari in 1994, its specification remains entirely original and unmodified, and it also boasts superb provenance with just two private owners from new. Powered by a sonorous flat-12, this example would be a compelling modern classic supercar for any serious collector, and is ready to be admired on static display or unleashed on the next owner’s favourite roads.
