1992 FERRARI 348 TB

This 1992 Ferrari 348 TB is a well-maintained and smartly presented example of a modern classic supercar, which benefits from a recent and complete engine rebuild. It is powered by the 3.4-litre quad-cam V8 engine, driven through a transversely oriented five-speed manual transmission - hence the TB or ‘Transversale Berlinetta’ moniker. The odometer indicates 89,640 km (55,700 miles) from new.

An original left-hand drive example, the car was delivered new within continental Europe (as denoted by the ‘B’ in the chassis number). It was handed over to its first owner, based in Andorra, in October 1992. The car was imported to the UK from Spain in late 2016, given a fresh service and MOT, and was then registered on its current plate in early 2017.

The paintwork is in good condition, with the front and rear bumpers known to have been repainted in 2016 to rectify stone chips. Otherwise, the finish is believed to be the original factory coat, and still presents well today.

It sits on a set of correct 17-inch five-spoke Speedline alloy wheels, which are in great shape with only a few minor chips and scuffs around the rims. All of the exterior plastics and seals around the bodywork are in good order, and the light lenses are undamaged.

The cabin in trimmed in black leather, which is in excellent overall condition. The seats have retained their shape very well and feature manual adjustment. There are no rips or tears in the finish, with the only note from the vendor being some discolouration on the driver’s seat bolster, which could be easily re-connolised. There is burgundy carpeting throughout, along with black tailored overmats with the Ferrari motif.

Its original steering wheel and gear knob are still present, and there are no known faults with any of the switchgear or electrics. There is some slight deterioration of the coating on the plastics on the dashboard and centre console, which is common with this era of Ferrari in particular.

Mechanically, this Ferrari 348 is now in very good order indeed, having been the subject of a full engine rebuild at the Haynes International Motor Museum in March 2019. The work was documented by photos and included the use of uprated stainless steel valves and all new gaskets and seals. The car was then given a full service, including renewal of the cambelt, tensioners and timing belt covers. Finally, the cooling system was overhauled, with a new water pump, fan switch and thermostat. The total cost of all this work was around £14,000.

Its previous scheduled maintenance was an annual service at Ferrari specialist Fiorano Sportscars in October 2016, when the mileage stood at 88,136 km. A full summary of its service history is included below.

The last MOT test was in March 2019 at 89,492 km (55,607 miles), which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. The alloy wheels are shod in a set of Pirelli P Zero Rosso tyres in size 225/45 R17 at the front and 245/45 R17 at the rear, all of which have plenty of tread remaining.

Accompanying the car is the original brown leather pouch, containing the handbook, service directory and the stamped maintenance record. The vendor also notes the factory-supplied tool kit is also present.

This Ferrari 348 TB is a great example of the supercar that brought the marque into the modern era, featuring a separate sub-frame for the engine and robot-welded body panels. The car has well-documented provenance and service history, and thanks to extensive recent work to ensure it is mechanically spot-on, it is ready to drive and enjoy immediately.
