EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• The DR 650 in 1990 in response to the likes of the 650 Dominator from Honda, as Suzuki sought to capture more buyers for a larger and more powerful machine.
• Its engine is effectively an enlarged DR 600 unit, with a bigger bore and longer stroke. However, the frame and suspension were significantly upgraded, making it more comfortable for riding on road as well as off it. The DR 650 R Dakar (also known as the Djebel in some markets) had a dirt bike style front mud guard instead of the RS models fairing. It was also equipped with a 21-litre fuel tank and large aluminium luggage carrier.
• This bike is finished in white with red livery and ‘Dakar’ decals, while the seat is trimmed in maroon vinyl.
• The DR 650 R has a single brake disc at the front and rear, with two-piston callipers.
• It is accompanied by the current V5C and will have a fresh MOT certificate.

CONDITION

• There is no known damage to the bodywork or frame.
• Its paintwork is believed to be all original and is in very good condition for its age, with a few small chips and signs of use. The ‘Dakar’ stickers are peeling away and heavily faded in places.
• No electrical faults have been detected.
• The most recent MOT test was on 13 June 2020 at 33,294 km, when it achieved a first-time pass with no advisories. That certificate has expired, but the seller will have a fresh 12-month certificate put on the bike ready for the next owner.

SERVICE HISTORY

• In June 2021, this bike was serviced and the carburettor was rebuilt. Its brake fluid was also replaced, new front and rear brake discs and pads have been fitted, and there was a major overhaul of the wheels and swinging arm to clean / detail and recommission the bike.
• Prior to this, its service history is not known, but it is obvious that the bike has been lightly used and well-cared for.

SUMMARY

This Suzuki DR 650 R Dakar is an unashamedly inexpensive dirt bike, which would no doubt prove to be great fun for romping around off-road, whether on adventure tracks or put into service as a utility bike for a farm or outdoor facility. Now a relatively rare find, this would be an intriguing addition to any collection of two-wheeled machines.
