This Mercedes-Benz 190E is an excellent example of the marque’s famously robust W201-series saloon, which is believed to be entirely original and has very low mileage. Under the bonnet is the 1.8-litre M102.910 inline-four engine, which produces 108bhp and is coupled to a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows just 41,162 miles, and it is being offered at No Reserve.

While an original UK right-hand drive specification model, this 190E was ordered in Belgium - presumably by a British citizen working overseas - and was first registered in the UK on 3 September 1991. The HPI report notes that it has previously been registered abroad, which it is assumed was for a very brief period prior to it arriving in the UK in 1991. There are just three previous keepers on the log book, and it was acquired by the most recent private owner in March 2018. The car is now offered for sale by the trade.

Its bodywork is in great shape, with straight panels and impressive shut lines. The door jambs, bonnet and boot shuts are all in superb condition. Its Signal Red paint is believed to be entirely original, and presents with just some minor chips and superficial marks that are to be expected given the car’s age. The bumper and other exterior plastics are sound, with only minor fading and with some scuffs on the bumper corners. Its 15-inch wheels are fitted with the correct disc covers, which are slightly marked in places, but are inexpensive to replace.

Inside, the charcoal coloured cloth upholstery is in exceptionally good order, with no rips or other damage to the fabric and virtually no perceptible wear. It remains remarkably well preserved; the dashboard and door cards are in excellent condition, and there is no sagging in the headlining. It was specified with the sliding sunroof, a Kenwood radio cassette head unit, and has dual-zone heating and ventilation. There are no reported electrical faults or warning lights.

The vendor is not aware of when the car was last serviced, but there is a small history file of paperwork, and old MOT certificates, as well as the original service directory and Kenwood stereo handbook.

The most recent MOT test was on 25 February 2020 at 40,457 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories or defects. The wheels are fitted with Continental EcoContact tyres, which are date-coded to 2003 and 2004, so have covered around 11,000 miles, and still have plenty of tread.

This Mercedes-Benz 190E is a stylish compact saloon, built in an era when the marque was renowned for its over-engineered approach to design and manufacturing. Presented with very low mileage and appearing to remain in remarkable original condition throughout, this is a superb modern classic that should prove to be a reliable and refined addition to any garage.

Please note: this car’s V5C records the chassis number as WDB201082F882475, but its correct VIN is WDB2010182F882475 (a ‘1’ was missed off the manual entry when the car was re-registered in the UK). This should be straightforward to update in the future.

The description of this auction lot is, to the best of the seller's knowledge, accurate and not misleading. Collecting Cars requests a range of detail about the lot from the seller, and performs a level of due diligence. However, bidders must satisfy themselves as to the accuracy of the description, and conduct any research they feel is necessary before committing to a bid. Please see our Terms and Conditions for full details.

All UK-registered cars and motorbikes on Collecting Cars are run through an online HPI check. This vehicle shows no insurance database markers for damage or theft, and has no finance owing.
