KEY FACTS

CONDITION

• No known bodywork damage.
• Its original Tornado Red paintwork is in good shape, though a few minor blemishes have been detected. There are some small paint bubbles around the headlights, a light scratch to the nearside of the front bumper and a blemish to the bottom corner of the driver’s door. The roof is also reported to be slightly faded.
• The original chequered cloth upholstery is in fair condition, with holes in both front seats, and a stain on the rear bench. The headlining has recently been replaced.
• An aftermarket Pioneer stereo has been installed.
• The vendor notes the electric windows are slightly slow, but there are no other known electrical faults.
• The most recent MOT test was on 29 June 2020 at 158,437 miles, which was a pass with a number of advisories, including a slightly damaged offside headlight lens, an insecure central exhaust heat shield, some corrosion to the underbody around prior welding, some oil residue, general wear to some bushes and rubbers, a binding offside rear brake and worn front tyres. The heat shield has since been tightened, while the binding brake and worn tyres have been replaced.

SERVICE HISTORY

• Its most recent scheduled maintenance was in April 2021 at 158,398 miles, where technicians at ZK Engineering & Bodywork replaced the engine oil, filter, spark plugs and brake pads, before performing basic underbody, brake and suspension checks.
• Prior to this, the starter motor, temperature sensor, brake pads and cambelt were replaced in 2019, while the vendor notes a new clutch has been installed within the last 10,000 miles.

SUMMARY

This Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI 8V is a presentable example of an undisputed modern classic, which is fresh from a full service and inspection. There is a very good history on file, as shown in the gallery, including its original stamped maintenance record. Other than lowered suspension, upgraded alloy wheels and a later stereo, the car remains highly original; eminently usable as a regular runner or a great basis for some minor cosmetic improvements.
