This Renault 5 GT Turbo Raider is a featherweight hot hatch, and an undisputed modern classic, presented in good condition. It is powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged inline-four engine producing around 118bhp, driving the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows just 57,167 miles from new.

An original UK car, first registered in January 1990, there are nine previous registered keepers on the log book - certainly not unusual with such a popular collectable performance car. The seller acquired the car two years ago to join an assortment of other modern classics, and has driven it sparingly since then.

The bodywork is in good order for its age and mileage, with the only imperfections noted by the seller being a minor dent in the driver’s door, and a crack in the offside front bumper - both of which would be straightforward to rectify. The blue paint is in great shape, with some stone chips to the bonnet and nose, and other small marks, but generally presenting with a smart finish around the car. Its body trims, window and door seals are all sound, and the car rides on the correct 13-inch five-spoke Speedline alloy wheels, colour-coded to the body.

Its interior is highly original, with the grey cloth upholstery presenting very well. There is some noticeable wear on the driver’s seat side bolster, and a small tear in the fabric on the rear bench. The whole cabin is pleasingly unmodified. Its original steering wheel and gear knob are present and correct, and even the Philips stereo is believed to be the period-correct item. All of the electrical items and switchgear work as they should.

The last scheduled maintenance was carried out in May 2019 at 56,949 miles, by Quorn Sports and Classics in Leicestershire. This consisted of a full service and inspection, as well as fitting of an upgraded head gasket and water pump. During 2019, the seller also had all of the shock absorbers and coil springs replaced, the former upgraded to Gaz adjustable items. A Scorpion exhaust was also fitted.

The last MOT test was on 15 May 2019 at 56,949 miles, when it achieved a first-time pass with no advisories whatsoever. Due to the six-month extension, the next test is not due until 14 November 2020. The wheels are fitted with Semperit Sport-Life tyres in size 195/55 R13, which are all in excellent condition.

Accompanying this car is a substantial history file containing a raft of old maintenance receipts and invoices, as well as numerous old MOT certificates. The original blue book pouch is also present, as well as the stamped service record.

This Renault 5 GT Turbo Raider is a smart example of a hot hatch icon, packed with period character, and with relatively low mileage. Beyond uprated suspension and a new exhaust, the car remains remarkably original, and presents in very good condition throughout. This is an opportunity not to be missed if you have always wanted one of these turbocharged modern classics in your collection.
