This 1990 Porsche 911 (964) Carrera 2 Cabriolet is a stylish and involving open-top sports car with a superb specification. Finished in Linen Grey paintwork with a cream leather interior, blue carpets and hood, this 964 is also equipped with the desirable five-speed manual transmission. Now showing 78,500mi (126,000km) from new, it is ready to be snapped up by a new owner to take out with the top down on glorious summer days.
Delivered new to the UK and first registered in August 1990, the car has had just four owners from new, and has been enjoyed by the vendor for the last two years. The car’s original factory specifications include an electric roof, leather seats, leather door cards, a tonneau cover, electric rear spoiler, a Sony stereo and a Cobra alarm. It has received specialist mechanical attention throughout its lifetime to ensure that it can be driven with ease and pure enjoyment today.
The vendor has confirmed that the body has been free from any damage during his ownership. It is in solid condition and shows no significant corrosion, although at some point the near-side rear wing has been replaced. The original Linen Grey finish has been repainted and is now in excellent condition.
Inside, the cabin’s cream leather interior with blue trim has been reupholstered and is in good condition. Its original Sony stereo and cassette player is installed above the gear shifter, but not all speakers are working correctly and would need some attention paid to correct them. The vendor reports that the electric roof has just received a full overhaul including the replacement of both motors and shafts.
Fully inspected by Peter Morgan’s renowned ‘Porsche Inspections’ company in January 2019, with the report concluding that it is “a sound car that has a number of small jobs that need attending to” and “better than most others at a similar asking price”. The full report is included in the car’s history file.
Also on file are a large number of invoices, receipts, and MOT certificates, along with 16 stamps in the service book from Porsche main dealers and specialists. The alloy wheels appear to be in good condition, and all four tyres have plenty of tread remaining. Its last service at 75,900 miles included a clutch replacement, and it is currently covered by an advisory-free MOT until August 2019.
The car is being sold with its original documentation and handbooks, and thousands of pounds have been spent over the years to bring it to the high standard it is presented in today. This 1990 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 would make an excellent fair-weather classic or even daily driver for its next owner, with its precise tuneful engine and precise manual gearbox providing mile after mile of driver delight.
