This 1990 Jaguar XJ-S Le Mans V12 is a rare limited-edition grand tourer, with a smart cream interior and which has recently been recommissioned. Under the bonnet sits the 295bhp 5.3-litre V12 engine, coupled to a smooth automatic transmission. The odometer currently indicates 82,139 miles from new.
Car number 32 of only 280 examples built to celebrate Jaguar’s win at the 1990 24 Hours of Le Mans, this special edition XJ-S features uprated suspension, new twin headlights, revised alloy wheels, and a set of numbered plaques in the door sills. This particular example also has a Tom Walkinshaw Racing bodykit, believed to have been fitted by the supplying dealer.
An original UK car, it temporary left the UK for France in 2006, and returned in 2019, with occasional use in France until 2016 when it went into storage. It has subsequently been recommissioned, and now presents well, with just two previous keepers on the V5C.
The elegant bodywork of this rare Jaguar is all in very good shape, with flush shut lines and smooth panels, though the vendor reports there is as receipt for minor damage repair early in the car’s life. The red paintwork has glossy finish, and while a few stone chips are visible on the front bumper and bonnet edge, these are entirely commensurate with the mileage. The car’s stylish rear wing and twin headlights are in good order. It rides on the correct 16-inch ‘Lattice’ wheels, which would benefit from refurbishment to match the paint quality.
Inside, the cream leather upholstery is in good shape for its age, with creasing and surface cracking on the driver’s seat in particular, but only minimal wear elsewhere. The leather-clad door cards are in good shape, and they are accented with smart walnut inlays, though a few light marks can be seen on the door-mounted speakers (original covers were swapped onto the new speakers in order to keep original style). An aftermarket Pioneer stereo and speaker system have been installed, and no electrical issues have been detected.
The last routine maintenance was undertaken in October 2019 at 78,511 miles, where technicians at The Motor Garage in Salisbury changed the engine oil, gearbox oil, filter, spark plugs and HT leads. Prior to this, routine maintenance was undertaken in 2016 and 2014, while the car was in France.
The most recent MOT test was on 5 November 2020 at 81,879 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories or defects. The tyres are date-coded to 2019 and remain in excellent condition.
Accompanying the vehicle are the original stamped service book, a raft of maintenance invoices, and the full tool kit. The original headlight bulbs and previous French number plates are also included.
This Jaguar XJ-S Le Mans V12 is a smart special-edition of the luxurious grand tourer, which has enjoyed recent recommissioning and presents very well throughout. One of only 280 examples built, it marks a rare opportunity to own a collectible classic.
