1990 FORD FIESTA XR2i 2.0 ZETEC - TRACK PREPARED

This 1990 Ford Fiesta XR2i is a modern classic hot hatch, which has been well-prepared for track use with an uprated engine, Gaz suspension and various weight-saving measures. Under the bonnet sits a 2.0-litre Zetec engine with Honda Fireblade carburettors, coupled with a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates 17,700 miles, which is assumed to be a true 117,700 miles.

First registered in June 1990, this XR2i has been with its current keeper for 11 years. A HPI check indicates that the car was original red, and was the subject of a Category C insurance claim in May 2007; though evidently a significant amount of work has since been carried out on the car.

Alongside the fitment of a 2.0-litre Zetec engine by Sitech Racing in 2015, this XR2i has been given uprated Gaz suspension and a Magnex exhaust. The original sunroof has been deleted with a roof panel replacement, while the windows have been replaced with polycarbonate. Inside, the car now features a set of Cobra ‘Imola’ bucket seats with four-point harnesses, an OMP welded roll cage, a Momo steering wheel, carbon-fibre door cards and extra temperature and pressure gauges on the dashboard. It was the subject of a six-page Fast Ford feature in May 2011, and is now offered for sale to another enthusiast owner.

The bodywork of this Fiesta presents well, with the vendor noting that the respray to its current Panther Black took place in 2010. It also features a carbon fibre-wrap on the bonnet, which as you might expect from an active track car, has a few stone chips and scuffs. Some similar wear can be seen on the front bumper and in the polycarbonate windows, while the vendor has also reported some light scratches on the roof. Three sets of alloys will be supplied with the car, wrapped with Toyo Proxes 4, Toyo R888R and Yokohama AO48 tyres. Both sets of Toyo tyres are believed to be in good condition, though the Yokohamas were first used over ten years ago.

Inside, the black Cobra bucket seats and their four-point harnesses are in good shape, and the vendor notes the carpets and roof lining have both been removed. The door card inserts have been replaced with carbon-fibre, and there some general superficial scuffs and marks around the original dashboard and glovebox area. The three-spoke Momo steering wheel is in good order, and no electrical faults have been detected.

The most recent MOT test was on 29 October 2015 at 17,030 miles, which resulted in a pass with one advisory to monitor corroded inner sills.

This Ford Fiesta XR2i is a track-prepared example of the popular hot hatch, with an uprated engine and suspension. It is not currently covered by an MOT, so is pitched as being for motorsport use only, as a great introduction to track days, or other exciting forms of competition such as timed hill climbs.
