This Yamaha FZR750R OW-01 is a striking homologation special, and about as close as it was possible to get to a road-legal World Superbike in 1989. It's engine is a 121hp 749cc DOHC 20-valve inline-four, fed by Mikuni downdraft carburettors, and coupled to a close-ratio six-speed transmission. The odometer indicates 799 km, though this is not warranted.

A direct response to Honda’s RC30, the FZR750R went on to experience similar success, notching up myriad wins in club racing, the World Superbike championship, and British Superbike series. In the hands of Carl Fogarty at the 1992 Isle of Man TT, it also went on to set a new absolute lap record at a speed of 123.61mph.

Built in 1989, this Yamaha was imported to the UK from Japan and was re-registered with the DVLA in 2016. It has been part of The Brunt Collection since September 2017.

The OW-01's aluminium twin-spar frame and aluminium fuel tank are in superb condition, as are the other fairings and body trims. The white, red, and blue paint finish is generally excellent, with just a few minor marks noted on the lower belly panel. Its adjustable Öhlins rear suspension is in great shape, while there are only small marks around the white alloy wheels.

This FZR750R was fully serviced before being handed over to the current owner, though during its time in the private collection, the bike has also been given regular routine oil changes.

The most recent MOT test was on 26 October 2020 at an indicated 798 km, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories or defects. Both the front and rear wheels are fitted with Continental ContiMotion tyres.

This Yamaha FZR750R OW-01 is a powerful, focused machine, which is presented in excellent order. Offered directly from a private collection where it has resided alongside other notable superbikes from the likes of Honda and Ducati, this OW-01 will no doubt appeal to the even most discerning of enthusiasts.
