This Toyota Supra Mk3 Turbo is an exceptionally smart example of a 1980s modern classic, with impressive performance and a sumptuously trimmed cabin. Under the bonnet is a 3.0-litre 7M-GTE turbocharged straight-six, producing around 232bhp and 254lb-ft of torque, driving the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows just 69,314 miles.

First registered on 1 August 1989, and with only one private registered keeper on the log book from new, this Supra Turbo is now offered for sale by the trade. As a turbocharged model, it is understood to have been fitted as standard with the Sport package, which comprised a limited-slip differential, electronically controlled independent suspension (TEMS), and headlamp washers. The claimed performance was 0-60mph in 6.2 seconds, and a top speed of 144mph.

The vendor states that the bodywork and paint are believed to be original, and that they present in genuinely superb condition. There is no evidence of any prior accident damage, and only minor imperfections and swirl marks in the Super Red paint finish. All of the body trims and light lenses are in good order, and the headlight pods raise and lower as they should. The car rides on the correct 16-inch alloy wheels, which are in great shape.

Inside, this Supra Turbo is upholstered in plush tan leather, looking every inch the sophisticated 1980s GT car. There are some signs of ageing and slight surface cracking to the leather on the driver’s seat, but the rest of the material presents remarkably well. There is no heavy wear or unsightly discolouration, so there is a genuine sense of time-warp nostalgia when stepping into the cabin. The dashboard, door panels and carpets are all in good order, and there are no reported faults with any of the switchgear or electrics. The driver’s seat features electric lumbar adjustment, and there is also air-conditioning, electric windows, the original stereo, and even cruise control.

Its last scheduled maintenance was carried out in March 2020 at 69,295 miles by Saxon Automobiles in Neath. This comprised an engine oil and filter change, and the car is reported to be running very well. Indeed, the last MOT test was on 10 August 2020 at 69,312 miles, which resulted in a clean first-time pass with no advisories or defects noted. The tyres are date-coded to late 2018, and are in excellent condition with around 6mm of tread remaining.

Accompanying the car is the original handbook and user guides, but the original service book is missing. However, there is a good history file with MOT certificates dating back to 1993 that support the low mileage, and any inspection is welcome to show the impressive condition. The spare wheel and tool kit are also present.

This Toyota Supra Mk3 Turbo is a remarkably well-preserved example of the Japanese marque’s 1980s sports GT, and one which boasts only one private owner from new. Original and unmodified, the vendor reports that this car drives as smartly as it looks, and it is ready to take to the road immediately. It has evidently been cherished throughout its life, and would make a fine addition to any collection of modern classics today.
