1989 PORSCHE 911 CARRERA 3.2 SUPER SPORT

This Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Super Sport Equipment is a sought-after modern classic, boasting low mileage, and presented in superb cosmetic and mechanical condition. Its engine is the 228bhp 3.2-litre air-cooled flat-six, which is driven through the rear wheels via the five-speed Getrag G50 manual transmission. The odometer shows just 67,811 miles from new, which is fully supported by the comprehensive history.

An original right-hand drive UK car, this 911 was specified from the factory with the M491-code ‘Super Sport Equipment’ package, consisting of the Turbo-look flared body, a black lip spoiler at the front and the ‘whale tail’ spoiler at the rear. It also included the axle brackets and stabilisers from the Turbo, along with the more powerful brakes.

This particular car was also specified with the uprated Hi-Fi system, two speakers in the rear shelf, and a sunroof. As a late 1989 model-year car, it benefits from the G50 transmission and hydraulic clutch, as well as thicker anti-roll bars. The 911 was first registered in February 1990, and has been owned by the seller for the last five years, who has covered around 5,000 miles on the road.

As can be appreciated by the comprehensive set of photos below, the bodywork of this Porsche is in wonderful condition, with no panel damage and no signs of corrosion. The car has previously been repainted in its original Grand Prix White colour, which has a smooth and even finish around the whole body. There are some marks on and around the ‘shark fin’ wing guards on either side, and some chips in the paint below them. A few chips are also present on the door mirrors, and there is a small patch of blistering on top of the passenger door window frame. In general, the car presents superbly.

The bonnet and boot shuts, door jambs, and sills are all in great condition. All of the light lenses are free of damage, and the rear reflector panel is pristine with no cracks or chips. Its window seals and door handle gaskets are in excellent order, and the rubber lip spoiler and rear spoiler trims are both in great shape. The car rides on the correct 16-inch Fuchs alloy wheels with a staggered setup, finished in polished metal and satin black, all of which are in very good condition.

In the cabin, this 911 remains highly original, equipped with the electrically adjustable high-backed Sport seats, and with full leather upholstery that extends to the upper and lower dashboard panels, as well as the padded door cards. There is some wear on the driver’s seat side bolster in line with the age and mileage, but no rips, holes, or other damage to the leather.

The car retains its original steering wheel and gear knob, and all of the switchgear functions as it should. There is a modern Porsche Classic media system with satellite navigation and phone connectivity installed, but the original radio is included in the sale. Above the seats, the perforated headlining remains in great shape, and the sunroof panel works perfectly. The blue carpets appear to be original throughout, and there is also a set of tailored floor mats.

This 911 boasts extensive maintenance history, and it has evidently been well cared-for by its previous keepers. The average distance covered between each service is less than 3,200 miles. Its last scheduled maintenance was carried out in November 2019.

Prior to this, it was seen by Porsche Centre Hatfield in November 2015 at 64,653 miles, which included a 12,000-mile maintenance service, as well as renewal of the alternator belt, distributor cap and rotor arm. The alloy wheels are shod in a set of N1-rated Continental SportContact tyres, in size 205/55 ZR16 at the front and 245/45 ZR16 at the rear, which are in good order with plenty of tread.

The most recent MOT test was on 10 July 2019 at 67,698 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. In fact, over the last 14 years and 12,000 miles on the road, the car has only been pulled up on worn windscreen wipers and a faulty rear brake light. Other than these notes, it has never received any other warnings or alerts during this time, which is a testament to its excellent condition.

Accompanying the car is a complete book pack, including the driver’s manual and original guarantee and maintenance record, as well as a raft of old service and MOT paperwork. The media gallery shows the fastidious record of history from new, with logged dates and mileages for all service visits. There are also two keys present, plus the space-saver spare wheel, jacking kit, and Porsche air compressor.

This Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Super Sport Equipment is a bona fide 1980s ‘poster car’ icon, which is presented in wonderful condition and would make a fantastic addition to any Porsche collection. However, these cars were made to be driven, and this particular example should prove to be as reliable as it is exciting, and is sure to delight its next owner on the open road.

Please note: the cherished plate shown on the car is not included in the sale. It will be switched back to an age-related registration plate in the event of a successful auction.
