1989 PORSCHE 911 CARRERA 3.2 SUPER SPORT 'TURBO'

This 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera Super Sport is an impressive custom build, presented in excellent condition throughout and with a number of high-performance modifications. It is now powered by a turbocharged 3.5-litre flat-six producing over 400bhp, coupled with an engaging G50 five-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates 105,532 miles from new.

This custom 911 started its life as a Carrera 3.2 fitted with the Super Sport Equipment option, before being taken on as a project by renowned Porsche specialist Bob Watson in 1996. The engine was fully blueprinted, based around the original matching-numbers engine block, and many parts were renewed and uprated along the way, with the aim of squeezing out more power than the marque’s 930 Turbo of the same era.

A considerable amount of 930 hardware was added, including crankcases, conrods, an oil pump and a more evenly balanced crankshaft. Mahle cylinders and pistons were fitted, taking the capacity up to 3.5-litres, before the injectors were upgraded to Bosch 550 items, and a KKK 27/29 turbocharger was fitted. A custom-made intercooler and bespoke rear spoiler finished off the package, with the engine now rated at more than 400bhp.

In order to harness the power effectively, the car was fitted with an RS clutch and flywheel, as well as a limited-slip differential to distribute drive from the G50 transmission. First registered in August 1989, this custom 911 has been in the possession of its current keeper for just over six years.

The bodywork of this Carrera Super Sport presents well, and to the best of the vendor’s knowledge, has never sustained any significant damage. The Guards Red paintwork is described as being in excellent condition, presenting with just a few age-related blemishes around the front end and side skirts. However, the finish has benefitted from a respray in the past and retains a rich hue.

The black accents and body trims all appear in good shape, along with the aftermarket rear spoiler and deeper front bumper. The vehicle rides on a set of 17-inch RUF alloy wheels, which match the black accents and appear to be in good order, with the exception of some minor surface scratches.

Moving inside, the black leather upholstery on the Ridgard retro style bucket seats is described as being in very good condition, presenting with some age-related creasing to the bolsters and seat bottoms. The lightweight Momo steering wheel and brushed metal gear knob are in good shape, and an aftermarket Kenwood stereo has also been installed. All of the car’s electrics are reported to work as they should, with no electrical issues detected and no warning lights present on the dashboard.

The last routine maintenance took place in November 2020, when technicians at Autofarm in Oxfordshire also replaced the clutch. Prior to this, Autofarm carried out scheduled servicing in November 2019 and November 2018, with the vendor noting the starter motor has also recently been replaced.

The most recent MOT test was on 20 November 2020 at 105,498 miles, which resulted in a pass with one advisory to monitor a worn nearside front anti-roll bar linkage pin or bush. The wheels come wrapped with a set of Michelin tyres, which are reported to be in good condition all around the car.

This Porsche 911 Carrera Super Sport ‘Turbo’ is a superb custom build, offering a unique take on an iconic classic.
