1989 LANCIA DELTA HF TURBO

KEY FACTS

• A rare special edition of the renowned Delta HF Turbo, which enjoyed great success in the World Rally Championship.
• It is powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged inline-four, producing 138bhp, which is delivered to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.
• In essence, the HF Turbo was the front-wheel drive version of the later HF Turbo 4WD, which then spawned the iconic Integrale and Evoluzione models. This ‘Martini’ edition celebrated the company’s sponsorship of Lancia’s competition cars.
• An original UK-delivered car, this particular Delta has had only two keepers from new, with the original owner enjoying the car until earlier this year.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• The car is finished in white with the famous ‘Martini’ colours featuring on the bonnet, the flanks and the boot lid.
• The interior features sculpted front Recaro sports seats, trimmed in grey Alcantara with multi-coloured striped cloth inserts, which are repeated across the back seats and door cards. The original front seats will also be supplied with car.
• The chrome front grille is highlighted with red trim and ‘HF Turbo’ badging, and the eight-hole 14-inch Cromodora alloy wheels are finished in white to match the exterior.
• Inside, the cabin boasts its original three-spoke ‘Martini Racing’ steering wheel, as well as an orange-faced Veglia instrument cluster.
• The car is also equipped with electric front windows, a ‘Pioneer’ radio-cassette player, and front fog lights.
• The car will be accompanied by various maintenance invoices, a spare wheel, a tool kit tools, a spare drive belt, and four keys.

CONDITION

• The car has no bodywork damage.
• The original white paintwork is in good condition overall, with some blemishes commensurate with the age and mileage of the vehicle. These include a small amount of corrosion on the windscreen wiper panel, at the bottom of the front doors, and inside the sunroof aperture.
• There are also a handful of stone chips on the leading edge of the bonnet, and some minor grazing to the front corners of the bumpers.
• A small part of the red grille trim is missing, and there is some ageing visible on the stripe decals, as well as a couple of minor blemishes on the wing mirrors.
• Moving inside, the fully original interior presents well, with some ‘piling’ on the synthetic suede front seats and a small hole on the rear bench. The passenger-side door mirror adjuster has no plastic cover, and the rear parcel shelf is missing.
• The vehicle is in sound working order, with no known mechanical or electrical faults.
• The most recent MOT test was performed in June 2021 at 120,118 miles, when the car recorded a clean first-time pass.

SERVICE HISTORY

• This Delta’s most recent scheduled maintenance was carried out in June 2021 at 120,115 miles by RWS Garage Services, who performed a full service and replaced various suspension bushes, as well as all four brake pads and discs.
• During the current keeper’s short ownership the car has been fitted with four new Goodyear tyres.

SUMMARY

Owned by its first keeper for 32 years, this is a well-loved and cared-for example of Lancia’s early hot hatch. An important part of the Delta bloodline, the HF Turbo predates the iconic Integrale, but still features a turbocharged engine and the famous ‘Martini’ livery in homage to Lancia’s motorsport success. It would make a fun addition to any rally fan’s collection, and will surely attract plenty of interest wherever the next owner chooses to drive it.
