1989 LAMBORGHINI LM002 - LHD

This Lamborghini LM002 is an astonishing and extravagant off-roader, boasting a supercar powertrain, brisk performance, and immense capability. Under the bonnet is a Countach-derived 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V12 with fuel injection, coupled to a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer indicates 14,293 km (8,881 miles).

Understood to have been first registered in January 1989, this LM002 has been owned by the current keeper for the last year. It is known to have resided with one owner in the US between 1997 and 2009, before it was exported to the UAE, where it has had two owners. As one of only around 300 examples built worldwide, this is a very rare Lamborghini, and one which never fails to turn heads.

It presents as a highly original example, with its riveted aluminium body panels exhibiting flush shut lines and even panel gaps. There is no evidence of any prior damage, and it is finished in the original factory colour of red, which has a handsome patina around the body. The vendor notes some light surface scratches on the bonnet, and evidence of slight corrosion on the boot lid hinges and door hinges. Its brush guards at the front and rear to protect the bodywork, while the huge spare wheel and tyre are mounted on the flip-down tailgate.

The interior trim appears to be entirely original, with four individual seats upholstered in cream leather, and with the hide extending across the vast centre console running front to back, the door panels, and the lower dashboard. There are some minor scuffs and wear on the driver’s seat and driver’s door armrest, but no significant damage or heavy discolouration. Some of the switchgear is also slightly faded, but they are all believed to work correctly, with no known electrical faults.

It was last serviced in November 2020 by the Lamborghini dealership in Dubai, where the car currently resides, when some minor oil leaks were also addressed in preparation for sale. The engine oil and filter were renewed, as well as the fuel filter, power steering fluid, and the battery. The air-conditioning was also re-gassed, and the vendor states that it is also working as it should.

In 2017, the front shock absorbers were refurbished, the handbrake system was serviced, and the horn was repaired. Two years earlier, various engine gaskets were renewed, as well as the air-conditioning condenser, and the front brake pads. The injectors were also pressure tested. The vendor reports that the original type Pirelli Scorpion Zero tyres are in good condition with virtually as-new tread, but that they are date-coded to 2000.

This Lamborghini LM002 represents an exceptionally rare opportunity to acquire one of the most excessive 4x4s ever built. When it was tested by Brock Yates for Car & Driver magazine in period, the SUV was called the ‘Rambo Lambo’ - a nickname that followed it through the generations, and which perfectly captures the rollicking spirit of this remarkable performance car. Presenting as a highly original and low-mileage example, this would be a wild addition to any supercar collection.
