• Held in 2016 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Porsche 924’s launch, the Porsche Classic Restoration Competition saw UK dealers and their recommended repair partners competing to bring neglected classic transaxle models back to as-new condition.
• Entered by Porsche Centre Colchester and partner Lancaster Witham, this 924 S Le Mans Edition was restored to an extremely high standard, and remains in fantastic overall condition, having covered only 400 miles since.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

• Only produced for the 1988 model year to celebrate Porsche’s 12th overall victory at the iconic circuit the year before, the 924 S Le Mans Edition featured the ‘M030’ sport suspension setup, comprising larger front and rear anti-roll bars, a lower ride height, stiffer springs and revised dampers.
• Cosmetically, this limited-edition sports car is set apart from the standard 924 S by the ‘Le Mans’ decals on its flanks, with turquoise stripes on black-painted examples such as this, and cloth-covered ‘Turbo’ sports seats with turquoise pinstripes and piping.
• It rides on the correct set of 15-inch ‘Teledial’ alloy wheels, which are finished in silver and feature matching turquoise accents, as they did from the factory.
• While the car has largely been restored to as-new condition, it has been fitted with Porsche’s retro-styled PCCM infotainment system, which offers DAB+, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity and satellite navigation.
• This 924 S will be accompanied by brand-new, reprinted copies of its service book and driver’s manual, its Porsche certificate of authenticity and a 110-page file of photographs which were compiled by Porsche Centre Colchester, documenting the car’s full restoration.

CONDITION

• The bodywork has been completely restored, with any corroded metal being cut out and replaced with fresh steel.
• Fully resprayed to a very high standard during the car’s restoration, the black paintwork remains in excellent condition. The exterior trim is also in great shape, as are the light lenses and the Le Mans Edition’s signature vinyl decals.
• Inside, the cabin has been fully re-trimmed with the correct grey cloth upholstery and black leatherette.
• There are no known mechanical faults and there are no warning lights displayed on the dashboard.
• The seller notes that the headlight washers do not function and the passenger-side door mirror can be adjusted up but not down. The seatbelt warning lamp was also not connected by Porsche, and the bulb for the full beam light on the dashboard needs to be replaced.
• The car’s last MOT test was conducted on 19 March 2021, resulting in a first-time pass without a single warning or advisory.

SERVICE HISTORY

• The most recent routine maintenance was a general service including replacement of the oil filter, engine oil and spark plugs, which was carried out by Porsche Centre Colchester at 120,329 miles, shortly after the car was fully rebuilt.
• As part of its restoration in 2015/2016, most of this 924’s mechanical components were restored or replaced with new parts. However, the original engine and transmission are still in place.

SUMMARY

This 1988 Porsche 924 S Le Mans Edition is a superb example of the rare modern classic, which was fully restored as part of a competition held by the manufacturer in 2016. The 924 S is an impressive driver’s car thanks to its more powerful engine, uprated suspension and engaging manual transmission, and this example could take pride of place in any collection.
