RESERVE LOWERED: 1988 HONDA CR-X EF7

This 1988 Honda CR-X EF7 is a JDM classic that has been upgraded to EF8 SiR specification, packing a lot of fun into a small package. In upgraded EF8 guise, the car runs a 1.6-litre four cylinder DOHC motor with VTEC, paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer reads approximately 188,877 km.

The car is a Japanese import and was first registered on 16 June 1988. Its previous owner was a mechanic who took fastidious care of it, servicing it at his shop PSR Tuning in Melbourne. It has been with its current owner for three months, and they have continued the work developing the car to EF8 SiR specification.

Benefiting from a closed-door respray in black with gold pearl, the car looks very smart, and is complemented by gold Yokohama ADVAN Racing wheels. The exterior paintwork is in excellent condition with no major flaws to report. Exterior trim is also in good condition, as are the aforementioned wheels, with one presenting just a small scratch.

The interior has been reupholstered during the car’s life and is described as in fair or good condition throughout. All of the trims have a period-correct appearance, presenting only modest signs of age and use. The owner notes small cigarette burn marks on the leather rear seat, and there is a small tear in the vinyl on the back of the passenger seat.

A major service was carried out on the car in January of 2021, with only 150 km put on the car since. The scope of work included replacing all oils and fixing an oil leak, fitting new coil-overs, replacing the brake master cylinder and fitting new original CR-X mats, new OEM quarter glass and fresh windshield seals.

Previous services were carried out by the owner, who was a mechanic at PSR Tuning in Melbourne. The cam belt was replaced around 20,000 km ago during the engine swap that occurred as part of the upgrade to EF8 specification.

The owner notes that a number of parts are still on order for the car, including amber corner lights, original EF8 fog lights, an EF8 gear knob, and SiR instrument cluster. Some service receipts from prior mechanical work will be included in the sale.

The CR-X passed its roadworthy certificate on 4 January, 2021 with no advisories or warnings noted. The owner states that the car has a slight vibration when cold, but is perfect once warmed through. They also note that the starter motor may need replacement in the future. Its tyres are Federal 595 EVO items, described as being in good condition.
