1988 FORD FIESTA

This 1988 Ford Fiesta is a superb example of the MkII model, presented in excellent condition throughout and with just three owners from new. It is powered by the 1.1-litre inline-four Kent/Valencia engine, coupled to a four-speed manual transmission.

First registered in October 1988, this Fiesta has been in the hands of its current keeper for five years. The odometer currently indicates just 50,919 miles from new, and it has clearly been well preserved thanks to careful dry storage for much of its life.

The vendor notes the front wings have been replaced, but the bodywork now presents with flush shut lines, smooth panels and no visible evidence of the work. Its green paintwork is in good condition, presenting with just a few light blemishes around the front wings and plastic body trims, while a few light scratches and swirl marks can be seen in the windows. Overall, this popular hatchback, which was once ubiquitous on Britain’s roads, presents as a remarkable survivor. Though a few very light scratches can be seen on the 13-inch wheels, they are in good order.

Inside, this Fiesta is trimmed with grey cloth, which has been kept in excellent condition. The striped fabric door card inserts present well, and their surrounding plastic mouldings are free of cracks or other damage. Its dark grey carpets and dashboard trim pieces are all in superb order, and again belie this car’s near 33 years of age. Even the original stereo remains in place, and no electrical faults have been detected.

There is a good history file of paperwork covering various routine servicing and other maintenance over the years, though it is evident from the condition of the car alone that is has been well maintained.

The most recent MOT test was on 25 August 2016 at 50,866 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories or defects. The wheels come wrapped with a set of Semperit tyres, which are reported to be as-new.

Accompanying the vehicle are the original owner’s manual and service book, alongside a raft of maintenance invoices and MOT certificates.

This 1988 Ford Fiesta is a superb example of the popular family hatchback, which now presents in remarkable preserved condition, and remains highly original. It would make a great candidate for the likes of Hagerty’s ‘Festival of the Unexceptional’, as a car that was once common but is now very rare – particularly in such good condition.
