This 1988 Fiat Uno Turbo is a restored but sympathetically modified example of a smart Italian hot hatch, which is well known among the owners’ collective, and which attracts plenty of attention at shows. Its rebuilt 1.3-litre turbocharged inline-four engine is coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox, while the suspension boasts upgraded front coilovers and rear dampers, and a Powerflex anti-roll bar. The odometer indicates 122,823 miles from new.

This Uno Turbo was first registered in June 1988 and has five former registered keepers on the log book. The previous owner undertook the bulk of the restoration, including the rebuilt engine and bodywork. It has been with its current keeper since April 2015.

A new engine rebuilt by specialist Avanti Motorsport was fitted, with a gas flowed cylinder head from Hodson Engineering and a hybrid turbo from Turbo Technics. It also boasts a Scorpion Exhausts system, SplitFire ignition leads, a Samco turbo hose kit, KWP water pump, and Bosch fuel pump. There are also angled valves, a fast road camshaft, rebuilt injectors, a lightened flywheel, a re-circulating dump valve, new thermostat, power boost valve, induction kit and organic fast road clutch kit.

Underneath, the car has been fitted with Avo GTZ Evo front coilovers, Spax Performance rear dampers with custom springs, Fiat Punto rear brake callipers, ECB brake pads, a Powerflex anti-roll bar, and Powerflex bushes. The vendor notes that since its restoration, the car has been kept in dry storage.

The bodywork presents in excellent condition, with no evidence of any panel damage, and has been treated to a respray in the iconic Ferrari hue of Rosso Scuderia. It is believed the original factory colour was grey. Featured as standard on the Uno Turbo are black plastic sill trims, a fibreglass tailgate, side decals, and a revised front bumper with inlets to direct air to the oil cooler and intercooler. This car has had an aftermarket sunroof fitted to a high standard. The vehicle rides on Ronal R10 Turbo ball burnished wheels, which present in excellent condition all round.

Inside, the Uno has been modified with a Momo gear knob and steering wheel. The headlining is present but is currently not fitted, as it was removed to put the aftermarket sunroof in place. The cloth seat upholstery is believed to be original and presents in fair condition, though some wear is visible on the bolsters, seat bottoms and the exterior seat corners.

The last service was undertaken at 122,475 miles in April 2019, where the technicians at Valoroso in East Sussex changed the engine oil and filters and replaced the cambelt.

The most recent MOT test was on 17 April 2019 at 122,532 miles, which the online history shows as a clean pass with no advisories. This test is valid until 27 October 2020 due to the Covid-19 extension, though the vendor states that the vehicle will be handed over with a fresh 12-month certificate. The vendor notes all four 185/45/15 Nankang tyres were fitted in 2017 and appear to be in excellent condition.

Accompanying the vehicle are the original Fiat Uno Turbo handbook, service directory, and a substantial file of paperwork detailing a raft of maintenance history as well as the restoration work done. A DVD containing photos of the refurbishment and rebuild is also present.

This 1988 Fiat Uno Turbo is a stunning restored example of a Giugiaro-designed icon, with a range of discerning mechanical modifications and a few visual upgrades. It is an eye-catching and beautifully finished build, and attracts admiring glances wherever it goes. The vendor describes this Uno as “the ultimate pocket rocket”, and it is certainly a great modern classic that deserves another dedicated enthusiast owner.
